Sonatas (film)
''Sonatas'' is a 1959 Mexican-Spanish historical drama film directed by Juan Antonio Bardem and starring MarÃa Félix, Francisco Rabal and Aurora Bautista.Baugh p.81 It premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It is based on novels written by the Spanish author Ramón del Valle-Inclán. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Francisco Canet and Gunther Gerszo. Some location shooting took place in Galicia as well as various locations around Mexico. The film was shot in Eastmancolor. Juan Antonio Bardem
Juan Antonio Bardem Muñoz (2 June 1922 – 30 October 2002) was a Spanish film director and screen writer, born in Madrid. He was a member of the Communist Party. Bardem was best known for ''Muerte de un ciclista'' (1955) which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival, and '' El puente'' (1977) which won the Golden Prize at the 10th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1979 film ''Seven Days in January'' won the Golden Prize at the 11th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1981 he was a member of the jury at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1993 he was a member of the jury at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. In 1953 he and Luis GarcÃa Berlanga founded a film magazine, '' Objetivo'', which existed until 1956. Bardem is the father of director Miguel Bardem and uncle of actor Javier Bardem. Bardem died in Madrid in 2002, at age 80. Margarita De Ochoa
Margarita de Ochoa was a Spanish film editor who worked on around fifty films during her career including ''Calle Mayor'' (1956). Ochoa edited a wide range of commercial films beginning in the 1940s, and worked with Spanish directors Jose Antonio Nieves Conde and Juan Antonio Bardem. Nieves Conde called upon Ochoa to edit seven of the eleven films he produced in the first half of his career. Bardem, after his first film and until Ochoa's death in the mid-1960s, employed only herto edit his films no one else. Fernando Casado Arambillet (La Coruña (Spain), 20 September 1917 – Madrid (Spain), 9 March 1994), best known as Fernando Rey, was a Spanish film, theatre, and television actor, who worked in both Europe and the United States. Location shooting is the shooting of a film or television production in a real-world setting rather than a sound stage or backlot. The location may be interior or exterior. Gunther Gerszo
Gunther Gerzso (June 17, 1915 – April 21, 2000) was a Mexican painter, designer and director and screenwriter for film and theatre. Biography Gerzso was born in Mexico City, in the times of the Revolution. His parents were Oscar Gerzso ( hu, Gerzsó Oszkár), a Hungarian immigrant, and Dore Wendland, German by birth. After his father's death a few months after Gunther was born, his mother married a German jeweler. The economic crisis during the revolution caused the family to flee to Europe in 1922. The family returned to Mexico two years later and her mother divorced. Not being able to provide for the children, she sent Gunther to Lugano, Switzerland to live with his uncle Dr. Hans Wendland, who was an influential name in the art world.
