''Somewhere in Turkey'' is a 1918 American short comedy film featuring Harold Lloyd. Plot A girl (Bebe Daniels) survives a shipwreck. Upon reaching shore, she is apprehended by several soldiers of a sultan who forcibly bring her to him. The girl immediately rejects the sultan's advances and is promptly thrown into a basement jail cell. A professor (Harold Lloyd) and his assistant (Snub Pollard) are travelling by camel through the desert. The out-of-control beast brings them to the sultan's residence. They find a rock bearing an Arabic inscription. Curious, they venture inside to find out what the words mean. They inadvertently interrupt the sultan watching a dancing girl. The angry sultan tells the visitors that the rock bears a warning that if any white man enters the building, he will not leave it alive. The two men try to flee, but Harold is eventually caught. James Parrott
James Parrott (August 2, 1897 – May 10, 1939) was an American actor and film director; and the younger brother of film comedian Charley Chase. Biography Early years James Gibbons Parrott was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Charles and Blanche Thompson Parrott. In 1903, his father died from a heart attack, leaving the family in bad financial shape, which forced them to move in with a relative. Charley Jr. quit school, so he could go to work, in order to support his mother and brother. Eventually the call of the stage beckoned him, and Charley Jr. left home at age 16 to travel the vaudeville circuit as a singer and comedic performer. By the time James had reached his teens, he too, had quit school, and became involved with the street gangs of Baltimore. Harold Lloyd Filmography
These are the known films of Harold Lloyd (1893–1971), an American actor and filmmaker most famous for his hugely successful and influential silent film comedies. Most of these films are known to survive in Lloyd's personal archive collection and in various film archives around the world. Some are also available on DVD or Blu-ray. The negatives of many of Lloyd's early short films were lost in a fire at his estate in 1943. The losses include five of the six Willie Work films, 53 of the 67 Lonesome Luke films, and 15 of the 81 one-reel Glasses character films. All of Lloyd's films from ''Bumping into Broadway'' (1919) onward exist in complete form in the archives. He carefully preserved his feature films, and they remain in excellent condition. All of the films are listed in order of release date. Chicago Board Of Censors
The Chicago Board of Censors was a film censorship committee based in Chicago that was founded in 1907 as the Police Censor Board, and operated until 1984. It was the first film censorship board in the United States. The board had great influence over the editing and distribution of many films. The city's censorship code was directly challenged and upheld by two U.S. Supreme Court cases called ''Times Film Corporation v. City of Chicago'', one in 1957 and one in 1961. Soon thereafter, other Supreme Court decisions in the 1960s (especially '' Freedman v. Maryland'' in 1965) reversed this holding and rendered municipal censorship laws largely ineffectual.
