Facts Of Life (band)
Facts of Life was an American soul/disco group formed by producer Millie Jackson, whose members were Jean Davis (sister of Tyrone Davis), Keith Williams, and Chuck Carter. They signed to independent label Kayvette Records, and a single, "Caught in the Middle", got airplay on Southern US radio stations but did not chart.Biography Allmusic.com Their second single was " Sometimes", a remake of country singer Bill Anderson's smash hit; Facts of Life's version hit #3 on the US Black Singles chart and #31 on the pop charts in 1977. As a result of the single's success, Kayvette rushed the album release, resulting in a bad pressing (the outer cover contained a number of spelling errors). Nevertheless, RCA picked up the group in 1978, but their second album was not very successful, and the group fizzled. Homer Banks
Homer Banks (August 2, 1941 – April 3, 2003) was an African American songwriter, singer and record producer. Although best known by many for his songwriting for Stax Records in the 1960s and 1970s, some of his own releases from the 1960s are considered classics on the Northern Soul scene. Many of the songs he wrote have become contemporary classics. Life Banks was born in Memphis, Tennessee, United States, and at the age of 16 formed the Soul Consolidators gospel group which toured around the southern states, often performing his own material. After military service, he returned to Memphis in 1964, and started a singing career with the small Genie label where he met Isaac Hayes and David Porter. Soon, Stax founder Estelle Axton hired him to work at the record shop attached to the company's Satellite Studios, where he stayed for three years, also recording for the Minit label. Frederick Knight (singer)
Frederick Knight (born August 15, 1944, Birmingham, Alabama, United States) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. Biography Knight recorded with Mercury and Capitol in New York before signing with Stax Records in 1972. He had his only UK hit single, "I've Been Lonely for So Long", in 1972. The song was on the chart for 10 weeks and reached number 22. Lack of further chart activity leaves him labelled as a one-hit wonder. However, Knight did appear in the documentary film ''Wattstax'', which was released in 1973. After Stax's demise Knight launched Juana Records, writing and producing The Controllers, and he had a UK Number 1 chart credit with Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" in 1979. Leon "Lenny" Welch (born May 31, 1938) is an American MOR and pop singer. Early years He was born in New York City, United States, and raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey, by his godparents, Eva and Robert Richardson. He attended Asbury Park High School. Wilbur H. "Will" Jennings (born June 27, 1944) is an American lyricist. He is popularly known for writing the lyrics for the songs "Tears in Heaven" and "My Heart Will Go On". He has been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and has won several awards including three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Academy Awards. Richard Kerr (songwriter)
Richard Buchanan Kerr (born 14 December 1944) is an English singer-songwriter and composer, who co-wrote " Mandy", "Looks Like We Made It" and " Somewhere in the Night" (all of which became hit singles for Barry Manilow) and " I'll Never Love This Way Again", for Dionne Warwick. Career Kerr began his education at Bedford School. After gaining an interest in music at school he went into songwriting. In the UK, he collaborated with musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s such as Peter Green, Don Partridge and Scott English. The Soul Children was an American vocal group who recorded soul music for Stax Records in the late 1960s and early 1970s. James William Anderson III (born November 1, 1937), known professionally as Bill Anderson, is an American country music singer, songwriter, and television host. His soft-spoken singing voice was given the nickname "Whispering Bill" by music critics and writers.
