''Something Special'' is an album by the American folk music group the Kingston Trio, released in 1962 (see 1962 in music). It reached number 7 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. The lead-off single was a non-album track "C'mon Betty Home" b/w "Old Joe Clark". "One More Town" b/w "She Was Too Good to Me" was released as a single later the same year. Old Joe Clark
"Old Joe Clark" is a US folk song, a mountain ballad that was popular among soldiers from eastern Kentucky during World War I and afterwards. Its lyrics refer to a real person named Joseph Clark, a Kentucky mountaineer who was born in 1839 and murdered in 1885. The "playful and sometimes outlandish verses" have led to the conjecture that it first spread as a children's song and via play parties. There are about 90 stanzas in various versions of the song. The tune is based on an A major scale in the Mixolydian mode, but moreover has definite hints of a complete blues scale, namely, the flatted 3rd and 5th. Although "Old Joe Clark" may have originated in the 19th century, no printed records are known from before 1900. An early version was printed in 1918, as sung in Virginia at that time. Stan Wilson (folk Musician)
Stan Wilson (born May 2, 1922 – June 8, 2005), was an American singer and guitarist. He is best known for his early performances in the San Francisco folk scene and for his association with The Kingston Trio. The Trio recorded two of his songs, "Jane, Jane, Jane" and "Rolling Stone". Critic Ralph J. Gleason wrote that Wilson "helped make the beginnings of the folk music invasion." Wilson recorded more than seven albums and was the first entertainer to play the hungry i club. He appeared there for six nights a week for more than three years. Wilson died in 2005 of heart disease. He was briefly married to Tamar Hodel, who played a role in the scandals surrounding the Black Dahlia murder, and with whom he had a daughter, Deborah Elizabeth (AKA Fauna Elizabeth). Lorenz Hart
Lorenz Milton Hart (May 2, 1895 – November 22, 1943) was an American lyricist and half of the Broadway songwriting team Rodgers and Hart. Some of his more famous lyrics include " Blue Moon", " The Lady Is a Tramp", "Manhattan", "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", and "My Funny Valentine". Life and career Hart was born in Harlem, New York City, the elder of two sons, to Jewish immigrant parents, Max M. and Frieda (Isenberg) Hart, of German background. Michael Ward Settle (born March 20, 1941) is an American songwriter, journalist, broadcaster and singer. Settle began his musical career as a solo singer and a member of The New Christy Minstrels. Nicholas Wells Reynolds (July 27, 1933 – October 1, 2008) was an American folk musician and recording artist. "Go Tell It on the Mountain" is an African-American spiritual song, compiled by John Wesley Work Jr., dating back to at least 1865, that has been sung and recorded by many gospel and secular performers. Georges Auric (; 15 February 1899 – 23 July 1983) was a French composer, born in Lodève, Hérault, France. He was considered one of ''Les Six'', a group of artists informally associated with Jean Cocteau and Erik Satie.
