Some Muge
Some Muge (1959–1997) was a Kenyan long-distance runner. He is best known for winning Kenya's first medal at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, preceding many others. This happened when he won the bronze medal in the long race of the 1983 World Cross Country Championships. Kenya also took bronze medals in the team competition. He had previously won the team bronze at the 1981 World Cross Country Championships, after finishing 57th in the race. At the 1986 World Cross Country Championships he finished eighth in the race and won a gold medal in the team competition, and at the 1987 World Cross Country Championships he finished fifth in the race and won another team gold medal. He also won the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the All-Africa Games, and finished 22nd in the 10,000 metres at the 1987 World Championships. Long-distance Runner
Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely Aerobic exercise, aerobic in nature and requires endurance, stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity. Overall, both types of respiration are used by endurance runners quite often, but are very different from each other. Peter Kimeli Some
Peter Kimeli Some (born 5 June 1990) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in road running events, including the marathon. Some has a marathon best of 2:05:38 hours and a half marathon best of 1:00:21 hours. He won the 2013 Paris Marathon and the 2012 Brighton Marathon. He is the son of former runner Some Muge and the brother of Matthew Kisorio. Career Some grew up in a family with a strong history of athletics: his father Some Muge was Kenya's first ever medallist at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He followed in his father's footsteps in distance running, as did his older brother Matthew Kisorio and younger brother Nicholas Kipchirchir Togom. Nicholas is a male given name and a surname. Mathew Kipkoech Kisorio (born 16 May 1989) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in road running and cross country running competitions. He has a half marathon best of 58:46 minutes (making him the third fastest ever) and a marathon best of 2:07:06 hours. On the roads, he has won the Philadelphia Half Marathon, Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon and Stramilano races. He has represented Kenya on the track and on grass. He was fourth at both the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and the 10,000 metres at the 2010 African Championships in Athletics. He tested positive for steroids at the 2012 Kenyan Athletics Championships and admitted his drug use, claiming that medical staff in Kenya had promoted a system of doping to athletes. IAAF World Cross Country Championships
World Athletics Cross Country Championships is the most important competition in international cross country running. Formerly held annually and organised by World Athletics (formerly the IAAF), it was inaugurated in 1973, when it replaced the International Cross Country Championships. It was an annual competition until 2011, when World Athletics changed it to a biennial event. History Traditionally, the World Cross Country Championships consisted of four races: one each for men (12 km) and for women (8 km); and one each for junior men (8 km) and for junior women (6 km). Scoring was done for individuals and for national teams. Athletics At The 1987 All-Africa Games
The fourth All-Africa Games were held in August 1987 in Nairobi, Kenya. Four new events were added to the games these were the women's 3000 metres, 10000 metres, 400 metres hurdles and 5000 metres track walk. Additionally the pentathlon for women was replaced with the heptathlon. Also four nations won medals for the first time in athletics at the All-Africa Games.
