''Solid States'' is the eighth and final studio album by American alternative rock band The Posies, released on 29 April 2016 by American label MyMusicEmpire. It was the band's first new album release in six years, and the first since the deaths of drummer Darius Minwalla and bass player Joe Skyward. The band's first single, "Squirrel vs. Snake," was released as a free download on the 3rd of March 2016, and an extensive month-long European tour promoting the album began on 29 March 2016. The band performed live as a trio with Frankie Siragusa on drums. The Posies
The Posies were an American power pop group. The band was formed in 1986 in Bellingham, Washington, United States, by primary songwriters Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow. Their music has its origins in Merseybeat and the Hollies. They are influenced by Hüsker Dü, XTC, Elvis Costello and Squeeze. The band split up in October 2021, following several allegations of sexual misconduct made against bandmember Ken Stringfellow. History Early years (1986–1988) Core members Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, who met as students at Sehome High School in Bellingham, Washington, began writing songs together in late 1986 while Stringfellow was in school at the University of Washington. Their first public performance came as an acoustic duo in 1987 while Stringfellow was home in Bellingham. They recorded twelve songs in Auer's family's home studio. Todd O'Keefe (born November 10, 1972) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and bass player. Artists O'Keefe has worked with include The 88, Ray Davies, Black Francis, Jeff Beck, Elvis Costello and Rusty Anderson. Holly Muñoz
Holly Muñoz is an American rock and country musician and songwriter based in Austin, Texas. Early life Muñoz was raised in El Paso, Texas and attended college at Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota with a double major in anthropology and history. Aviette From 2005 to 2009, Muñoz was the lead vocalist and guitarist for Minneapolis based alternative rock band Aviette. They released two albums, and received national radio airplay. Kliph Scurlock
Clifton Thomas "Kliph" Scurlock (born June 16, 1973) is an American musician. He was the drummer and percussionist for alternative rock band The Flaming Lips from 2002 to 2014. Early life Scurlock was born in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Roger W. Scurlock (born ca. 1946) and Linda Louise Rokey (September 6, 1944 – July 17, 1981). His love of music was inspired by his mother. Linda Scurlock was in the first all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Estrella. She also gave him his first Beatles album, which was on 8-track tape. When he was eight years old, his mother died in the Hyatt Regency walkway collapse in Kansas City, where she was performing with Mariachi Estrella. Ken Stringfellow
Kenneth Stuart Stringfellow (born October 30, 1968) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer. Best known for his work with The Posies, R.E.M., and the re-formed Big Star, Stringfellow's discography includes more than 200 albums. Early life and education Stringfellow was born in Hollywood, California. His father, a television executive, relocated the family frequently as his career developed, and Stringfellow went to elementary schools in New York, Chicago, and Detroit. After his parents divorced, in 1978, he moved to Bellingham, Washington. In high school, Stringfellow, who had learned to play piano at nine and guitar at 11, met Jon Auer, with whom he would later form The Posies. Jonathan Paul "Jon" Auer (born September 29, 1969) is an American musician who co-founded the power pop band The Posies, along with Ken Stringfellow. Auer and Stringfellow also participated in the rejuvenated Big Star and in 2003 released ''Private Sides'', a six-song split EP (Arena Rock Recording Co./Rykodisc). Auer played guitar on the 2004 William Shatner record ''Has Been'' which was produced and arranged by Ben Folds.
