Soleilmoon Artists
Soleilmoon Recordings is an American record label that began in 1987 as a cassette label, operating from the back of a record shop called the Ooze in Portland, Oregon, US. The first releases were by Smegma, Muslimgauze, Coil, and Nocturnal Emissions. In 1991 the shop was sold and Soleilmoon became a full-time label. Hate music designation On February 15, 2017, Soleilmoon was declared a provider of hate music by the Southern Poverty Law Center, solely for the label's release of recordings by alleged far-right extremist artist Death in June. This designation has since been removed from the Southern Poverty Law Center's Hate Map without comment. Eyeless In Gaza (band)
Eyeless In Gaza are an English musical duo of Martyn Bates and Peter Becker, based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. They have described their music as "veer ngcrazily from filmic ambiance to rock and pop, industrial funk to avant-folk styles." Formed in 1980, the group went into hiatus in 1987, re-emerging in 1993. History Formation (1979–1980) Becker, a laboratory technician, had played in a covers band before buying and experimenting with a Wasp synthesizer (he released a solo cassette-album in June 1980 and a second a year later). Tone Dogs
Tone Dogs was an avant-prog group founded in 1987 by bassist Fred Chalenor and vocalist/saxophonist Amy Denio, who comprised the nucleus of the band. Drummer Matt Cameron, known for his work in the alternative rock group Soundgarden, was recruited to perform on the band's 1990 debut album '' Ankety Low Day''. The band has also performed with Fred Frith of Henry Cow and Hans Reichel. History Tone Dogs was formed in Portland, Oregon by Fred Chalenor and Amy Denio. Fred had just left his previous group Face Ditch and Amy had already recorded several solo works. The project began as studio experiment exclusively for the duo before they recruited Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron. Steve Roach (musician)
Steve Roach (born February 16, 1955) is an American composer and performer of ambient and electronic music, whose recordings are informed by his impressions of environment, perception, flow and space. His work has been influential in the trance and new-age genres. Roach has received two Grammy Award nominations for New Age Album of the Year: His 2017 album ''Spiral Revelation'' for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards., and 2018's ''Molecules Of Motion'' for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. Reformed Faction
Reformed Faction is a musical group formed in 2005 by three former members of Zoviet France: Andy Eardley, Mark Spybey and Robin Storey. The band's original name was The Reformed Faction of Soviet France. They played one concert, in Vienna on 10 November 2005, and released a self-titled album on the Vienna-based Klanggalerie label. In 2006, they announced that they were to continue the project under the name Reformed Faction in order to detach themselves from the name Zoviet France. The album was re-pressed under the new name and given the new title ''Vota''. In the same year, Andy Eardley departed the band. Randy Greif
Randy Greif is a noise music composer who often incorporates electronic music and musique concrete collage with spoken word and field recordings. Early career Since the mid-1970s, Greif has composed electronic music, musique concrete and computer-generated music and in 1983 he started the DIY label Swinging Axe Productions (SAP) to release his own work and those of like-minded artists. The various alias names Greif has recorded under include Screaming Dukduks and Shadowbug 4. During the first few years of his career, only a handful of cassette-only releases were available, including those by Sound of Pig, Controlled Bleeding, Merzbow, Illusion of Safety and If, Bwana. People Like Us is the stage name of London DJ multimedia artist Vicki Bennett. She has released a number of albums featuring collages of music and sound since 1992. In recent years, she has performed at a number of modern art galleries, festivals and universities. Musical career Since 1991 Vicki Bennett has been making CDs, radio, and A/V multimedia under the name People Like Us. By animating and recontextualising found footage collages Vicki gives an equally witty and dark view of popular culture with a surrealistic edge. Vicki has shown work at, amongst others, Tate Modern, The National Film Theatre, Purcell Room, The ICA, Sydney Opera House, Pompidou Centre, Sonar in Barcelona, The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the BBC and Channel 4. O Yuki Conjugate
O Yuki Conjugate (OYC) are an English post-industrial/ ambient musical group founded in 1982 in Nottingham by Roger Horberry and Andrew Hulme and still - intermittently - active today. Their music has been variously described as 'ambient', 'fourth world', 'ethnic', 'tribal' and 'dark wave'; the band prefer to call it 'dirty ambient'. They are currently in their fourth incarnation based around Horberry and Hulme. Previous members include Clare Elliot, Tim Horberry, Malcolm McGeorge, Dan Mudford, Pete Woodhead and Rob Jenkins, with Joe Gardiner contributing sax. Originally inspired by the spirit and sound of post-punk, they soon started pioneering their own brand of ambient at a time (early 80s) when few people were interested in such a low-key approach. Merzbow
is a Japanese noise project started in 1979 by , best known for a style of harsh, confrontational noise. Since 1980, Akita has released over 400 recordings and has collaborated with various artists. The name Merzbow comes from the German dada artist Kurt Schwitters' artwork ''Merzbau'', in which Schwitters transformed the interior of his house using found objects. The name was chosen to reflect Akita's dada influence and junk art aesthetic. In addition to this, Akita has cited a wide range of musical influences from progressive rock, heavy metal, free jazz, and early electronic music to non-musical influences like dadaism, surrealism and fetish culture. Since the early 2000s, he has been inspired by animal rights and environmentalism, and began to follow a vegan, straight edge lifestyle. Lustmord
Brian Williams is a Welsh industrial musician, sound designer and film score composer. He is often credited for creating the dark ambient genre with albums recorded under the name Lustmord. His experimental work has been described as "not traditionally 'musical'" with "more clearly visual aspects". Biography Williams was raised in rural Wales, before relocating to London in his late teens. In London, Williams befriended Throbbing Gristle members Cosey Fanni Tutti and Chris Carter, who urged him to make his own music. He started recording as Lustmord in 1980 before joining SPK in 1982. Lustmord has extracted field recordings made in crypts, caves, and slaughterhouses, and combined it with occasional ritualistic incantations and Tibetan horns. Loren Nerell
Loren Nerell (born November 30, 1960) is an American composer and performer of ambient American music and Balinese gamelan. As a composer, Loren has written music for film, theater, dance, and interactive multi-media. He has performed with the Kronos Quartet, has recorded eleven albums of original work, has appeared on several compilations such as ''Dali: The Endless Enigma'', ''Soundscape Gallery 3'', and ''Weightless, Effortless'', and has made guest appearances on recordings such as Steve Roach's ''Artifacts'', Paul Haslinger's ''World Without Rules'', Djam Karet's ''Collaborator'', and L. Subramaniam's ''Global Fusion''.
