Soldiers On The Moon
''Soldiers on the Moon'' is the third studio album by the American singer and songwriter David Lasley, released in 1989 on Pony Canyon Records. It was met with critical acclaim by music journalists including Stephen Holden of The New York Times, among others. Lasley wrote three of the eleven songs including the title track and a cover of his song " You Bring Me Joy". The remaining songs are covers including "It's Too Late", "Since I Fell For You", “I Think It's Gonna Rain Today" and "God Bless The Child". Agenda Records released the album in the US in 1990. In 2000, Cool Sounds reissued the album in Japan. Soldiers On The Moon was produced by Jeffrey Weber as a live to 2-track studio recording at Ocean Way Studios. The rhythm section included Jeff Porcaro, Abe Laboriel, Luis Conte, Bob Mann, and Marty Walsh.Luther Vandross is the arranger of the background vocals. David Benoit appears on every track. David Eldon Lasley (August 20, 1947 – December 9, 2021) was an American recording artist, singer, musician and songwriter. He was best known as a touring background singer for James Taylor, as a session singer on recordings by artists including James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Luther Vandross, Chic (band), Chic, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Bette Midler, Dusty Springfield and Boz Scaggs; as a songwriter for artists including Bonnie Raitt, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Maxine Nightingale, Rita Coolidge, Crystal Gayle, and Luther Vandross; and for his solo albums, albums with his 1970s vocal group Rosie, and for his early years in Detroit with his vocal group The Utopias. Luis Conte
Luis Conte (born 16 November 1954) is a Cuban percussionist best-known for his performances in the bands of artists including James Taylor, Madonna, Pat Metheny Group, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Phil Collins, Rod Stewart and Shakira. He began his music career as a studio musician for Latin Jazz acts like Caldera. Conte's live performance and touring career took off when he joined Madonna's touring band in the 1980s. Neil Strauss of The New York Times describes Conte's playing as "grazing Latin-style percussion". The Stylistics
The Stylistics are an American, Philadelphia soul group that achieved their greatest chart success in the 1970s. They formed in 1968, with a lineup of singers Russell Thompkins Jr., Herb Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith and James Dunn. All of their US hits were ballads characterized by the falsetto of Russell Thompkins Jr. and the production of Thom Bell. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", sometimes known as "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", is a song with words by Gerry Goffin and music composed by Carole King. David Bryan Benoit (born August 18, 1953) is an American jazz pianist, composer and producer, based in Los Angeles, California, United States.
