Solas Festival
Solas Festival is an annual music festival, held in Scotland, since 2010. The festival also comprises elements of poetry, art, politics, dance, philosophy and literature. Described as a "wee Woodstock," the festival is associated with Creative Scotland, Scottish Refugee Week and Christian Aid. The first three festivals were held in the village of Wiston. Since 2013 the festival has been held at various locations near Perth: the Field at Blackruthven from 2013 to 2018, Scone Palace in 2021 and Errol Park in 2019 and 2022. There was no festival in 2020. Richard Alexander Ross (born 22 December 1957) is a Scottish singer-songwriter and broadcaster who is the lead singer of the rock band Deacon Blue. Alongside his discography with Deacon Blue, Ross has released a number of solo albums, his first, '' So Long Ago'' was released in 1984. Biography Early life Ross was born in Dundee, Scotland, in 1957 and attended the High School of Dundee, an independent school. Deacon Blue (1987–present) Ross is a founding member and lead singer of the rock band Deacon Blue. Margie Gillis (born July 9, 1953) is a Canadian dancer and choreographer. Gillis has been creating original works of modern dance for over thirty-five years. Her repertoire includes more than one hundred pieces, which she performs as solos, duets, and group pieces. Early life and education Gillis was born in Montreal, Quebec, the daughter of Gene Gillis, an Olympic skier, and Rhona Wurtele, a Canadian Olympic skier. Her brother Jere Gillis played professional hockey. Breabach is a Scottish folk music band formed in 2005. In 2011, they received nominations for ‘Best Group’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. They won Scottish Folk Band of the Year in 2012 and Live Act of the Year in 2013 at the Scots Trad Music Awards (''Na Trads''). The National Theatre of Scotland, established in 2006, is the national theatre company of Scotland. We Were Promised Jetpacks are a Scottish indie rock band originally from Edinburgh, formed in 2003. The band consists of Adam Thompson (vocals, guitar), Sean Smith (bass) and Darren Lackie (drums). Stuart McGachan (keyboards, guitar) was a member of the band from 2012 to 2015. On 2 July 2019, founding member Michael Palmer (guitar) announced that he was leaving the band. Liz Lochhead Hon FRSE (born 26 December 1947) is a Scottish poet, playwright, translator and broadcaster. Between 2011 and 2016 she was the Makar, or National Poet of Scotland, and served as Poet Laureate for Glasgow between 2005 and 2011. Early life Elizabeth Anne Lochhead was born in Craigneuk, a "little ex-mining village just outside Motherwell", Lanarkshire. Her mother and father had both served in the army during the Second World War, and later, her father was a local government clerk. In 1952, the family moved into a new council house in the mining village of Newarthill, where her sister was born in 1957. Karine Polwart ( ) (born 23 December 1970) is a Scottish singer-songwriter. She writes and performs music with a strong folk and roots feel, her songs dealing with a variety of issues from alcoholism to genocide. Randolph's Leap is an eight piece indie-pop band from Glasgow, Scotland, and signed to Lost Map Records as of 2014. Founded by frontman Adam Ross in 2006, members include Ross (guitar/vocals), Adam Florence (drums), Vicki Cole (bass), Andrew MacLellan (guitar), Heather Thikey (violin), Pete MacDonald (keyboards), Ali Hendry (trumpet) and Fraser Gibson (trombone). Roddy Woomble
Roddy Woomble (born 13 August 1976) is a Scottish singer, songwriter and writer. He is the lead vocalist of indie rock band Idlewild, with whom he has recorded nine studio albums. Celebrated for his poetic lyrics and warm, baritone voice, In 2006, Woomble released his folk-influenced debut solo album, '' My Secret Is My Silence'', and has since released four subsequent studio albums: '' The Impossible Song & Other Songs'' (2011), ''Listen to Keep'' (2013), ''The Deluder'' (2017) and ''Lo!
