Solar Thermal Power In Spain
Spain is one of the first countries to deploy large-scale solar photovoltaics, and is the world leader in concentrated solar power (CSP) production. In 2018, the cumulative total solar power installed was 7,011 MW, of which 4,707 MW were solar PV installations and 2,300 MW were concentrated solar power. In 2016, nearly 8 TWh of electrical power was produced from photovoltaics, and 5 TWh from CSP plants. Throughout 2016, photovoltaics accounted for 3% of total electricity generation, and solar-thermal an additional 1.9%. Spain is one of the European countries with the most hours of sunshine. The country initially had a leading role in the development of solar power. Generous prices for grid connected solar power were offered to encourage the industry. Termosolar Borges
Termosolar Borges (also known as Borges Termosolar) is a hybrid biomass- parabolic trough solar thermal power plant which provides electricity to Spain's transmission system. It is located about west of Barcelona, about south-east of Lleida, near Les Borges Blanques, Catalonia, Spain. The plant is the northernmost concentrated solar plant built in Spain. Construction has started February 2011 and the power plant was brought into operation in December 2012. and required between 150 and 450 people depending on the phase of creation. On a commercial scale, the plant is the first of its type: a solar parabolic trough plant with two biomass burners that integrate the solar production. The Valle Solar Power Station is a two adjacent twin 50 MW solar thermal power plants (Arcosol-50, also Valle 1 and Termesol-50, also Valle 2, was Vallesol-2) in San José del Valle, Cádiz, Spain, near the border with the Arcos de la Frontera (north) and the Jerez de la Frontera (west) municipalities, in the comarca of the Campiña de Jerez (the Jerez countryside), a county with no administrative role. Gemasolar is a concentrated solar power plant with a molten salt heat storage system. It is located within the city limits of Fuentes de Andalucía in the province of Seville, Spain. Alvarado I
Alvarado I (former La Risca project) is a large solar thermal power station in Alvarado, province of Badajoz, in Extremadura, Spain. Construction on the plant commenced in December 2007 and was completed in July 2009, when commercial operations began. Built by the Spanish company Acciona Energy, it has an installed capacity of and lays next to the La Florida solar thermal power station. The facility is built on a site with a solar resource of , producing an estimated of electricity per year (an average power of 12 MW). Solnova Solar Power Station
The Solnova Solar Power Station is a large CSP power station made up of five separate units of each. The facility is part of the Solucar Complex, in Sanlúcar la Mayor, in Spain, the same area where the PS20 solar power tower is also located. With the commissioning of the third unit, the Solnova-IV in August 2010, the power station ranks as one of the largest CSP power stations in the world. Solnova-I, Solnova-III, and Solnova-IV were commissioned in mid-2010 and are all rated at 50 MWe in installed capacity each. All five plants are built, owned and operated by Abengoa Solar, a Spanish solar power company. The Extresol Solar Power Station is a 150 megawatt (MW) commercial concentrated solar thermal power plant, located in Torre de Miguel Sesmero in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. The power station consists of three different systems, Extresol 1,(NRELExtresol-1/ref> Extresol 2(NRELExtresol-2/ref> and Extresol 3,(NRELExtresol-3/ref> of 50 MW each, due to the power limitation of 50 MW per plant established by the Spanish legislation. Extresol uses parabolic trough and has a thermal energy storage system, which absorbs part of the heat produced in the solar field during the day and stores it in molten salts. The Puertollano Solar Thermal Power Plant is a 50-megawatt (MW) concentrated solar thermal power station using parabolic trough, located near Puertollano in the Province of Ciudad Real, Spain.
