Solar Lodge
The Solar Lodge of the Ordo Templi Orientis was a magical organization in California that was established in 1965, and withdrew from initiatory activity in 1972. It was loosely based on ideas from the then-defunct Ordo Templi Orientis, but used the curriculum of the A.'.A.'. established by Aleister Crowley. The precursor to Solar Lodge was set in motion by Ray Burlingame ("Frater Aquarius"), when he initiated Georgina "Jean" Brayton ("Soror Capricornus") in 1962. Burlingame was a Ninth Degree member of Ordo Templi Orientis. The O.T.O. as re-founded by Grady McMurtry in 1969 has never accepted Solar Lodge as a valid body of O.T.O. and considers the Solar Lodge "clandestine", much as Freemasons consider the O.T.O. a form of clandestine Masonry. A magical organization or magical order is an organization created for the practice of ceremonial or other forms of occult magic or to further the knowledge of magic among its members. Magical organizations can include Hermetic orders, Wiccan covens and circles, esoteric societies, arcane colleges, witches' covens, and other groups which may use different terminology and similar though diverse practices. 19th century The Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor was an initiatic occult organisation that first became public in late 1894, although according to an official document of the order it began its work in 1870. Ordo Templi Orientis
Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.; ) is an occult Initiation, initiatory organization founded at the beginning of the 20th century. The origins of the O.T.O. can be traced back to the German-speaking occultists Carl Kellner (mystic), Carl Kellner, Heinrich Klein, Franz Hartmann and Theodor Reuss. Later, the O.T.O. was significantly shaped by the English author and occultist Aleister Crowley. After Crowley's death in 1947, four main branches of the O.T.O. have claimed exclusive descent from the original organization and primacy over the other ones. Aleister Crowley
Aleister Crowley (; born Edward Alexander Crowley; 12 October 1875 – 1 December 1947) was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, and mountaineer. He founded the religion of Thelema, identifying himself as the prophet entrusted with guiding humanity into the Æon of Horus in the early 20th century. A prolific writer, he published widely over the course of his life. Blythe is a city in eastern Riverside County, California, United States. It is in the Palo Verde Valley of the Lower Colorado River Valley region, an agricultural area and part of the Colorado Desert along the Colorado River, approximately east of Los Angeles and west of Phoenix. Vidal, California
Vidal, California is a small unincorporated community located in southeastern California, in San Bernardino County on U.S. Route 95, north of Blythe, California, United States and south of Needles. The town is west of the townsite of Earp, California and west of Parker, Arizona on State Highway 62. The community, which is two miles (3 km) north of the Riverside County line, lies at an elevation of above sea level. Vidal is from the city (and county seat) of San Bernardino, making it the second-farthest town in the county from the county seat behind Earp. The Boy In The Box (Vidal, California)
The "Boy in the Box" trial was held at the Riverside County Superior Court in Indio, California in 1969 and 1970. It was, at that time, portrayed as a case of severe child endangerment. Investigation and Arrest Charges were filed against 13 members of the Solar Lodge secret society after their ranch near Vidal was raided by deputies of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department on July 26, 1969. When the deputy sheriffs arrived at ''Solar Ranch'', they found 6-year-old Anthony Saul Gibbons sitting inside a six-foot by six-foot box with a chain padlocked to his left leg and attached to a heavy metal plate.
