Solanin
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Inio Asano. It was serialized in Shogakukan's ''Weekly Young Sunday'' from 2005 to 2006. In North America, the manga was licensed for English language release by Viz Media. The manga was adapted into a live-action film directed by Takahiro Miki and starring Aoi Miyazaki as Meiko. It was released in Japan in April 2010. In the same year the band Asian Kung-Fu Generation released the single " Solanin", with lyrics written by Inio Asano, author of the manga. The song was featured in the movie version. The band also provided the ending theme to the movie. In October 2017, eleven years after the manga's original publication, a new epilogue chapter was published by Shogakukan as part of a new Japanese edition. Solanin (song)
is a song by Japanese rock band, Asian Kung-Fu Generation. It was released as a single on March 31, 2010. The song was written for the film of the same name. The music was composed by band member Masafumi Gotoh, while the lyrics was written by Inio Asano, creator of the manga of the same name that the film is based on. Asian Kung-Fu Generation's recording was not used in the film. Instead, a cover, credited to Rotti, a fictional band from the film, with vocals by Aoi Miyazaki, who plays Meiko in the film, was used. The single's B-side, "Mustang (mix for Meiko)" is a remix of "Mustang" from the band's 2008 EP '' Mada Minu Ashita ni.'' The song, which was also inspired by the manga, was used as the ending theme of the film. Asian Kung-Fu Generation
(stylized as ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION) is a Japanese alternative rock band formed in Yokohama in 1996. For its entire career, the band has consisted of vocalist Masafumi Gotoh, guitarist Kensuke Kita, bassist Takahiro Yamada, and drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi. Starting out as a college band, Asian Kung-Fu Generation released a series of independent EPs featuring lyrics mostly sung in English. In 2002, they released their major-label EP debut '' Hōkai Amplifier'', from that point singing their lyrics in Japanese. Inio Asano
is a Japanese manga artist. Asano created the acclaimed manga '' Solanin'', which was released as a feature film in Japan in April 2010, starring Aoi Miyazaki. He is also famous for the series ''Goodnight Punpun''. Aoi Miyazaki
is a Japanese actress. She is known for her roles in '' Nana'' and '' Virgin Snow''. Career Miyazaki started working in the entertainment industry at the age of four. Initially she appeared mostly in commercials, magazine advertisements, and as an extra in television dramas. Miyazaki made her film debut in ''Ano Natsu no Hi'' at the age of 14. Also at the age of 14, Miyazaki began to draw international attention for her role as the survivor of a traumatic bus hijack in Shinji Aoyama's ''Eureka''. Straightener (band)
is a Japanese alternative rock band. The band started out as a duo with Atsushi Horie (vocals/guitar) and Shinpei Nakayama (drums) in 1998. They established an independent label named Ghost Records in 2002. Hidekazu Hinata joined the band as bassist in 2003, giving the band a heavier sound. In October of the same year they released a single, "Traveling Gargoyle" from Toshiba EMI. Straightener have performed at numerous festivals and live tours. The band toured all over Japan during their ''Linear'' tour in 2007, as well as performing a joint tour in December 2013 with Asian Kung-Fu Generation to celebrate both bands' 10-year anniversaries. Weekly Young Sunday
was a weekly manga magazine published by Shogakukan in Japan since the first issue on March 27, 1987. It replaced '' Shōnen Big Comic'' in Shogakukan's lineup of shōnen titles, and many of the titles in ''Shōnen Big Comic'' were continued in ''Young Sunday''. The magazines was sometimes called for short. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of ''Weekly Young Sunday'', Shogakukan and Yahoo! Auctions Japan held a charity auction benefitting the Green Cross Japan. Various manga artists donated signed original artwork, and Shogakukan donated rare goods related to the series and people appearing in the magazine. The Harvey Awards are given for achievement in comic books. Named for writer-artist Harvey Kurtzman, the Harvey Awards were founded by Gary Groth in 1988, president of the publisher Fantagraphics, to be the successor to the Kirby Awards that were discontinued in 1987.
