Sokol Shameti
Sokol Shameti, (born 29 April 1978) is an Albanian columnist, writer and journalist. Much of his interest is concerned with Politics of Albania, political philosophy and the late modern and contemporary history of the Balkans. His work is concerned with the social and political debate in Albania and Kosovo. He is often mentioned among the left activists in Albania. Sokol Shameti has collaborated with a number of newspapers and broadcasting operators in Albania and abroad including Gazeta Shqiptare, Koha Jonë, Korrieri, Klan Television, Top Channel, Institute for War and Peace Reporting, La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, Courrier International, Koha Ditore ''Koha Ditore'' (trans. Albanian People
The Albanians (; sq, Shqiptarët ) are an ethnic group and nation native to the Balkan Peninsula who share a common Albanian ancestry, culture, history and language. They primarily live in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia as well as in Croatia, Greece, Italy and Turkey. They also constitute a large diaspora with several communities established across Europe, the Americas and Oceania. Albanians have Paleo-Balkanic origins. Exclusively attributing these origins to the Illyrians, Thracians or other Paleo-Balkan people is still a matter of debate among historians and ethnologists. Korrieri ( en, Courier) was an Albanian language daily newspaper. History and profile Established on 28 March 2001 as a berliner type publication, ''Korrieri'' was for a period (April 2007 - January 2009) on the front line of transforming Albanian journalism into a more market-driven activity exhibiting a British tabloid style newspaper which offered a vast range of articles of popular interest. Its style at the time was aggressive and direct and it very often published issues other publications will not touch. It had a high reputation among the young generation, but also it was highly respectable and strongly influential into the political levels. ''Koha Ditore'' (trans. ''Daily Time'') is the leading daily newspaper in Kosovo. It is published by Koha Group and was founded and owned by politician Veton Surroi. His sister Flaka Surroi is now the publisher, following Veton Surroi's launch of his political career within the ORA reformist party. The newspaper initially published as a weekly magazine Koha, that ran from 1992 to 1994, becoming a leading weekly magazine in Kosovo. The initial team included new generation of opinion-makers such as Ylber Hysa, Baton Haxhiu, Dukagjin Gorani, Eqrem Basha, Shkelzen Maliqi, etc. The newspaper with the same name was published for the first time in 1997. Institute For War And Peace Reporting
The Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an independent nonprofit organization that claims to train and provide publishing opportunities for professional and citizen journalists. History IWPR was founded in 1991 under the name Yugofax. Initially it was a newsletter that reported on the troubling developments throughout the Balkans from a balanced perspective. As the conflict developed into an all out war, Yugofax newsletter changed its name to Balkan War Report. Eventually, in late 1995, after the Dayton Peace Accord was signed ending the war in Bosnia, the newsletter expanded its area of focus to other global trouble spots (initially mainly focusing on ex-Soviet republics) and adjusted its name to War Report. Top Channel is a national commercial television network based in Tirana, Albania, founded by Dritan Hoxha in 2001. In January 2008, Top Channel was awarded national frequency coverage by making it the third such channel in Albania. In 2009, it was the first Albanian channel to become available in 16:9 widescreen high-definition television for selected programs. Since September 2003, Top Channel has been present on satellite by broadcasting all over Europe through DigitAlb, and North America through TVALB and Shqip TV. Televizioni Klan, also known as TV Klan, is an Albanian private television channel with national coverage, based in Tirana, Albania. History and profile TV Klan launched as a Franco-Albanian joint-venture, with its first broadcast airing on 25 October 1997. It is the first private TV channel in Albania. Koha Jonë
''Koha Jonë'' ( en, Our Time) is a newspaper published in Albania. The paper is a politically unaffiliated daily newspaper based in Tirana. History The paper was first published on 11 May 1991 by Nikolle Lesi and Aleksandër Frangaj in Lezhë and after some time the headquarters were moved to Tirana. Nikolle Lesi and Alexander Frangaj were the director and chief editor of the paper, respectively. In 1996, Lesi became sole owner of the paper when he bought out Frangaj, who had owned 40 percent of the shares. In 1997 the premises of ''Koha Jonë'', at the time Albania’s biggest-circulation daily, were completely burnt down by unknown perpetrators.
