Softball At The 2008 Summer Olympics
Softball at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing took place over a ten-day period starting August 12 and culminating in the medal finals on August 21. All games were played at the Fengtai Softball Field. Olympic softball is a women only competition, with men competing in the similar sport of baseball. This is the most recently contested softball tournament in Olympic history, as the International Olympic Committee voted to remove baseball from the program in the 2012 Olympics. Along with baseball, softball was rejected for inclusion in the 2016 Summer Olympics at the IOC's meeting in October 2009. However, following a 2016 IOC vote, softball was included for the 2020 Games. Alison Bradley (born April 27, 1979 in Walkerton, Ontario) is a Canadian softball left fielder. Bradley began playing softball at the age of seven. She eventually became a student at the University of Western Ontario. Megan Timpf
Megan Timpf-Soto (born January 21, 1984) is a Canadian softball player. Life and career Timpf competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics for the Canadian women's national softball team under the tutelage of coach Lori Sippel; she has been a member of the national team since 2005. When Timpf plays softball, her position is either third base or shortstop. Timpf gives credit to her sister Amber for helping her get interested in softball. Even though Timpf had to recover through two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgeries, she has continued to play softball. Timpf's parents are Peter and Andrea Timpf. She also attended Simcoe Composite School and graduated in 2008 with a certificate to become an elementary school teacher. Jennifer Salling
Jennifer Salling (born 4 July 1987) is a Canadian, former collegiate All-American, medal-winning Olympian and professional softball player. She played college softball at Oregon and Washington, and won a national championship at Washington in 2009. She has also played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch for the USSSA Pride, Pennsylvania Rebellion and most recently the Canadian Wild. She represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she set the tournament batting average record for a single Olympic games, and won a bronze medal. Career Salling began her college softball career at Oregon in 2007, before transferring to Washington in 2008. She won a national championship at Washington in 2009. Noémie Marin (born April 5, 1984 in Acton Vale, Quebec) is a former two-sport athlete that played ice hockey and softball. She was a four-time Clarkson Cup winner and she retired as the CWHL's all-time leading goalscorer. Caitlin Anne Lever (born March 12, 1985) is an American-Canadian softball outfielder. Early life Lever was born in Morristown, New Jersey, when her father Don Lever played for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL).
