''Sociology'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by SAGE Publications on behalf of the British Sociological Association. ''Sociology'' is the highest impact ranked journal in the UK for the subject area. ''Sociology'' is regarded as one of the three "main sociology journals in Britain," along with ''The Sociological Review'' and the ''British Journal of Sociology''. The journal was established in 1967 as "the clearest intellectual representative of the social aspirations of the Butskellite era," with Michael Banton serving as its first editor. It was formerly published by Cambridge University Press and has been published by Sage Publications since 2002. Sociology is a social science that focuses on society, human social behavior, patterns of Interpersonal ties, social relationships, social interaction, and aspects of culture associated with everyday life. It uses various methods of Empirical research, empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about social order and social change. Sylvia Theresa Walby (born 16 October 1953) is a British sociologist, currently Professor of Sociology, Director of the Violence and Society Centre at the City University of London. She has an Honorary Doctorate from Queen's University Belfast for distinction in sociology. She is noted for work in the fields of the domestic violence, patriarchy, gender relations in the workplace and globalisation. John Peter Scott (born 8 April 1949) is an English sociologist working on issues of economic and political sociology, social stratification, the history of sociology, and social network analysis. He is currently working independently, and has previously worked at the Universities of Strathclyde, Leicester, Essex, and Plymouth. He is a Fellow of the British Academy (elected 2007), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (elected 2005), and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (elected 2003). He has been a member of the British Sociological Association since 1970. In 2015 he became Chair of Section S4 of the British Academy. David Morgan (sociologist)
David Hopcraft John Morgan (30 July 1937 – 17 June 2020), known as David (H. J.) Morgan, was a British sociologist, who was President of the British Sociological Association (1997–1999) and editor of the association's journal ''Sociology''. His research focused on family sociology, gender studies and especially men's studies. Morgan was Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester, where he taught sociology from 1964, and where the Morgan Centre for the Study of Relationships and Personal Life is named in his honour. He also held Visiting Professorships at Keele University and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He was co-editor of the Palgrave Studies in Family Sociology book series.
