Society Of St. Francis Xavier
The Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, Pilar ( la, Societas Missionariorum Sancti Francisci Xaverii), abbreviated SFX and commonly referred to as the Society of Pilar or the Pilar Fathers is a Roman Catholic society of apostolic life of Pontifical Right for men (priests and brothers). Its members add the nominal letters S.F.X. after their names to indicate their membership in the Congregation. History The Society was formed on September 26, 1887, at Agonda (Canacona) by a priest in south Goa, India named Father José Bento Martins Ribeiro, who, together with his three companions, decided to dedicate their lives for the service of God's people. Their aim was to serve the diaspora Catholics of the predominantly non catholic areas of Goa called the 'Nova Conquistas' and to proclaim the Gospel in these areas. Aleixo Das Neves Dias
Bishop Aleixo das Neves Dias, S.F.X. is a prelate of the Catholic Church who was Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Blair, India, from 1985 to 2019. Biography Aleixo was born in Calangute, Goa, India on 5 August 1944 to Francisco Xavier Dias and Feliza Clara Dias. He did his basic schooling from Little Flower of Jesus High School, Calangute. He joined All India Mission Seminary, Pilar Goa in 1956. Aleixo was ordained a priest of Society of the Missionaries of Saint Francis Xavier on 21 December 1969. He served as the rector of the All India Mission Seminary, Pilar, in Goa. He completed his master's degree in sociology in Rome in 1976. In 1980, he acquired a diploma in communications in London. Aleixo was appointed the first bishop of Port Blair on 22 June 1984 by Pope John Paul II and received his episcopal consecration on 20 January 1985 from Pius Kerketta, S.J., Archbishop of Ranchi. The Christian population is almost entirely Goan Catholics, whose ancestors converted to Christianity during Portuguese rule. Agnelo De Souza
Agnelo de Souza (born Agnelo Gustavo Adolfo de Souza; 21 January 1869 – 20 November 1927), was a Roman Catholic priest of the Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, Pilar who performed missionary work in the province of Goa, then part of Portuguese India. The cause for his canonization has been accepted for investigation by the Holy See, and has progressed to the point that he has been declared Venerable. Life Early life De Souza was born in the village of Anjuna to Miguel Arcanjo de Souza and Maria Sinforosa Perpetua Magalhães.
