Society
A society is a group of individuals involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social group sharing the same spatial or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Societies are characterized by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be described as the sum total of such relationships among its constituent of members. In the social sciences, a larger society often exhibits stratification or dominance patterns in subgroups. Societies construct patterns of behavior by deeming certain actions or concepts as acceptable or unacceptable. These patterns of behavior within a given society are known as societal norms. High society, sometimes simply society, is the behavior and lifestyle of people with the highest levels of wealth and social status. It includes their related affiliations, social events and practices. Upscale social clubs were open to men based on assessments of their ranking and role within high society. In American high society, the ''Social Register'' was traditionally a key resource for identifying qualified members. For a global perspective, see upper class. The quality of housing, clothing, servants and dining were visible marks of membership. Society (foaled April 12, 2019) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who has won multiple Graded stakes race, graded stakes events as a three-year-old in 2022 including the Graded stakes race, Grade I Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing. Background Society is a Chestnut (horse color), chestnut filly that was bred in Kentucky by Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds. Her sire is Gun Runner (horse), Gun Runner, the 2017 American Horse of the Year and stands at Three Chimneys Farm. Society became the sixth grade 1 winner, and fourth grade 1 winner in 2022 for Gun Runner in his second-crop. Her dam is Etiquette who was also bred by Peter Blum, is a daughter of Tapit and is a half sister to Pleasant Prince who won the Grade III Ohio Derby and was second in the 2010 GI Florida Derby. Her offspring include a filly by Street Sense (horse), Street Sense sold to Windancer Farm for $725,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The Vegan Society
The Vegan Society is a registered charity and the oldest vegan organization in the world, founded in the United Kingdom in 1944 by Donald Watson, Elsie Shrigley, George Henderson and his wife Fay Henderson among others. History In November, 1944 Donald Watson secretary of the Leicester Vegetarian Society who identified as a non-dairy vegetarian started a newsletter ''The Vegan News'', sub-titled "Quarterly Magazine of the Non-Dairy Vegetarians". Watson coined the term vegan to describe a vegetarian diet devoid of all animal-derived ingredients such as dairy and eggs. He derived the term from the word vegetarian by taking its first three letters and its last two letters because "veganism starts with vegetarianism and carries it through to its logical conclusion".Preece, Rod.
