Socialist Janata (Democratic) Party broke away from Janata Dal (Secular). It merged with Janata Dal (United) on 29 December 2014. History The Kerala unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) is a part of the CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front. The CPI(M)-JD(S) ties came under strain around 2008. Things worsened when the CPI(M) hesitated to give the JD(S) seat of the Kozhikode parliamentary constituency, in the 2009 Lok Sabha election, and the leading newspaper Mathrubhumi published lavalin issues, which is against Pinarayi vijayan. He got angry with the managing director of Mathrubhumi and the chief of SJ(D) MP Virendra Kumar. A major portion of the JD(S) led by M.P. Veerendra Kumar aligned with the United Democratic Front and launched the Socialist Janata (Democratic) Party on 7 August 2010. It merged with Janata Dal (United) on 29 December 2014. Janata Dal (Secular)
The Janata Dal (Secular) is an Indian political party led by former prime minister of India, H. D. Deve Gowda. The party is recognized as a State Party in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh. It was formed in July 1999 by the split of Janata Dal party. It has a political presence mainly in Karnataka. In Kerala, the party is a part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF). History The Janata Dal (Secular), formed in 1999, had its origins in the Janata Party, founded in 1977 as a coalition of several smaller parties that combined forces to oppose the Indian National Congress. Janata Parivar Alliance is an alliance in Indian politics to describe the various political parties that emerged from Janata Dal or others. The Janata Parivar includes, amongst others, Janata Dal (United) and Janata Dal (Secular). On 14 April 2015, the Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Indian National Lok Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) announced that they would merge into a new national Janata Parivar alliance in order to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Janata Parivar formation took place ahead of the crucial 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election.
