Sochi ( rus, Со́чи, p=ˈsotɕɪ, a=Ru-Сочи.ogg) is the largest resort city in Russia. The city is situated on the Sochi River, along the Black Sea in Southern Russia, with a population of 466,078 residents, up to 600,000 residents in the urban area. The city covers an area of , while the Greater Sochi Area covers over . Sochi stretches across , and is the longest city in Europe, the fifth-largest city in the Southern Federal District, the second-largest city in Krasnodar Krai, and the sixth-largest city on the Black Sea. Being a part of the Caucasian Riviera, it is one of the very few places in Russia with a subtropical climate, with warm to hot summers and mild to cool winters. Sochi hosted the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games in 2014. It hosted the alpine and Nordic Olympic events at the nearby ski resort of Rosa Khutor in Krasnaya Polyana. 200px, Port of Sochi, March 2013 The Commercial Sea Port of Sochi (russian: Сочинский морской торговый порт) is a seaport on the Black Sea, the main focus of which is marine passenger transportation. Its headquarters is in the Central District of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. Overview The port has two passenger berths that have a total length of 330 m, and can accommodate vessels up to 220 meters with a draft of 8.5 m. The port does not freeze; marine navigation is possible year round. Through it are provided passenger service from Poti and Batumi in Georgia, and cargo service to the Turkish ports of Trabzon and Istanbul. The seaport is a major railway station complex, which was built in 1955. In 2013 the port was modernized as part of the renovations in the city for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
