John Soane
Sir John Soane (; né Soan; 10 September 1753 – 20 January 1837) was an English architect who specialised in the Neoclassical architecture, Neo-Classical style. The son of a bricklayer, he rose to the top of his profession, becoming professor of architecture at the Royal Academy and an official architect to the Office of Works. He received a Knight Bachelor, knighthood in 1831. His best-known work was the Bank of England (his work there is largely destroyed), a building which had a widespread effect on commercial architecture. He also designed Dulwich Picture Gallery, which, with its top-lit galleries, was a major influence on the planning of subsequent art galleries and museums. His main legacy is Sir John Soane's Museum, the eponymous museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields in his former home and office, designed to display the art works and architectural artefacts that he collected during his lifetime. Sir John Soane's Museum
Sir John Soane's Museum is a house museum, located next to Lincoln's Inn Fields in Holborn, London, which was formerly the home of neo-classical architect, John Soane. It holds many drawings and architectural models of Soane's projects, and a large collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings and antiquities that he acquired over many years. The museum was established during Soane's own lifetime by a Private Act of Parliament in 1833, which took effect on his death in 1837. Soane engaged in this lengthy parliamentary campaign in order to disinherit his son, whom he disliked intensely. The act stipulated that on Soane's death his house and collections would pass into the care of a Board of Trustees, acting on behalf of the nation, and that they would be preserved as nearly as possible exactly in the state they were at his death. Zeb Soanes
Zebedee Soanes (born 24 June 1976) is a British radio presenter who presents the weekday evening music show ''Smooth Classics at Seven'' on Classic FM. He was previously a newsreader and continuity announcer on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra until June 2022. He has collaborated in concert performances, particularly with the vocal ensemble Opus Anglicanum, and has published the children's book series ''Gaspard the Fox''. Early life and education Soanes was born in Lowestoft in Suffolk, the son of a Methodist minister. He is named after the Biblical fisherman Zebedee, who was the father of two of Jesus' disciples. Soanes has two sisters, Anna and Rebecca. George Soane
George Soane (1790–1860) was an English writer and dramatist. Life The younger son of John Soane, he was born in London. He graduated B.A. from Pembroke College, Cambridge, in 1811. Shortly afterwards he married Agnes Boaden, against his parents' wishes. His writing career was not enough to earn a living. Soane fell into debt, and was imprisoned. In 1814 he was editing the ''Theatrical Inquisitor'', but also served time for fraud. He gave evidence on the King's Bench Prison, from his experience of it, to a committee of enquiry in 1815. In ''The Champion'' during September 1815 Soane attacked his father's reputation as an architect, in two anonymous articles. His mother died shortly afterwards. These pieces led to a family rupture, and indirectly to the foundation of Sir John Soane's Museum. Soane attempted to block the private Act of Parliament of 1833 that set up the museum's endowment. Henry Soane
Henry Soane (1622–1661) was a Virginia politician, real estate investor and landowner who served in the House of Burgesses 1652–55, 1658, and 1660–61, and was its Speaker in 1661. Early and family life He married Judith Fuller, which whom they had five children. His son William Soane and grandson Henry Soane II would also serve in the House of Burgesses representing Henrico County and James City County, respectively. His daughter Judith Soane first married Henry Randolph I (the clerk of the house of burgesses) and after his death in 1673, Major Peter Field of Henrico County. Bryan Andrew Soane (born 11 July 1988) is an Australian footballer. Youth Hailing from the Penrith area, he played for Emu Plains FC from their Under-sixes through to the Under-11s. Picked as a representative player for the Penrith Panthers' youth team, he played in their Under-12, Under-13 and Under-14 teams. Next he moved to Bankstown City FC, featuring in their Under-15 side and was even selected for their squad travelling to Spain where they played opposition such as Real Madrid Youth. Soane Tonga'uiha (born 21 January 1982) is a Tongan-born, New Zealand-educated, rugby union player and coach. He plays for Chinnor and internationally for Tonga. His position of choice is loose-head prop, although he sometimes plays at tight-head. He is known for his large size and fierce runs. Club career Tonga’uiha moved from Tonga to Auckland, New Zealand with his family at the age of eight. At first, in Auckland, he played rugby league. Soane Lilo Foliaki (18 April 1933 − 24 December 2013) was the third Roman Catholic bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga. Education Soane was educated at St Patrick's College, Silverstream. He graduated the University of Hull, and achieved a degree in mathematics. Priesthood He was ordained to the priesthood on 21 July 1955, Foliaki was named bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga, Tonga on 10 June 1994 and retired on 18 April 2008.
