Snoy
Snoy or Snoy d'Oppuers currently Snoy et d'Oppuers, is a Belgian noble family. The current descendants are titled Barons Snoy and of Oppuers. Among the former residences of the family we find Château de Bois-Seigneur-Isaac, Meerbeek Castle and Befferhof Castle. Lord of Oppuers The family was important for the history of the Heerlijkheid of Oppuers. For generations they were Lord of Oppuurs and Poederlee. Joost Snoy became after his marriage the first Lord of Oppuers. Philipp's first marriage to the important house made him one of the most important lords of Mechelen. His daughter Walburga Snoy inherited from her mother, Marie of Brimeu. the seigneurie of Poyelles ( Poederlee). During the 17th century the family obtained political power, and continued to intermarry with important houses. Jean-Charles Snoy Et D'Oppuers
Jean V Charles, Count Snoy et d'Oppuers (2 July 1907 in Braine-l'Alleud – 17 May 1991) was a Belgian civil servant, diplomat and Christian Democratic politician of the PSC-CVP. Family Jean-Charles was born son of Thierry Idesbald, Baron Snoy et d'Oppuers member of the Belgian Senate, mayor and Jacqueline de Pret Roose de Calesberg. He married Countess Nathalie d'Alcantara and they lived at the Snoy family estate, the Castle of Bois-Seigneur-Isaac. Career He studied Law and Thomistic philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven. He was Secretary-General of the Belgian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Head of the Belgian Delegation to the Intergovernmental Conference on the Common Market and Euratom at the Château of Val-Duchesse in 1956. He notably signed the Treaties of Rome for Belgium, together with Paul-Henri Spaak and Robert Rothschild in 1957. He was Minister of Finance from 1968 to 1971. House Of Brimeu
Brimeu is a noble family, some members belonging to the Flemish aristocracy. Brimeux, previously in Flanders, is now in France. History The family originated from the county of Ponthieu. The oldest known member is Jean I of Brimeau, in whose memory his son, Jean II, knight, built a chapel in 1151. Five members of the House of Brimeu were Knights of the Golden Fleece. Amongst the lands owned we find Humbercourt, Chaulnes, Poederlee, Ligny, Meghen and Wesemael. Charles of Brimeu sold Wesemael to Gaspar Schetz, and it became the property to the house of Ursel. The last generations of the House of Brimeu, intermarried with important Flemish noble families like the houses of Glymes, Croy, Ursel, Schetz, Van de Werve, Snoy and Tucher von Simmelsdorf. La Cambre Abbey (french: Abbaye de La Cambre, ) or Ter Kameren Abbey ( nl, Abdij Ter Kameren) is a former Cistercian abbey in the City of Brussels, Belgium. It is located in the Maelbeek valley between the Bois de la Cambre/Ter Kamerenbos and the Ixelles Ponds. The abbey church is a Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Mechelen–Brussels and home to a community of Norbertine canons, while other parts of the monastery house the headquarters of the Belgian National Geographic Institute and La Cambre, a prestigious visual arts school. The abbey was founded around 1196. It was suppressed during the French Revolution. Oppuurs
Oppuurs is a village in the Belgian province of Antwerp. It is a part of the municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands. Oppuurs has 2,048 inhabitants as of 2021. History The first time Oppuurs was mentioned was in 1414, when it was called ''Oppuedersel''. In the 15th century, it was owned by the Van der Calsteren family. Later, Joost Snoy became the owner. In 1664, it was elevated to a barony. Later, in 1777, the properties were bought by Philippe Ghislain Snoy, who became baron. On 7 May 1818, Idisbalda-Ghislain Snoy was appointed mayor by the king. Oppuurs was part of the municipality of Puurs, and was separated from it in 1803. Great Council Of Mechelen
From the 15th century onwards, the Great Council of the Netherlands at Mechelen (Dutch: ''De Grote Raad der Nederlanden te Mechelen''; French: ''le grand conseil des Pays-Bas à Malines''; German: ''der Grosse Rat der Niederlände zu Mecheln'') was the highest court in the Burgundian Netherlands. It was responsible for the Dutch-, French- and German-speaking areas. In Luxembourgish the phrase ''"mir ginn op Mechelen"'' (we'll go to Mechelen) still means playing one's last trump card.
