Snelling Sevens
The Snelling Sevens (also known as the Snelling Seven-a-Side Trophy and originally known as the Welsh Seven-a-Side Tournament) was an annual Welsh Rugby Union sevens competition that ran from 1954 until 1995. The tournament was inaugurated in 1954 and the trophy presented by the Chairman of Newport Athletic Club, Reg Snelling, after whom the competition is named. The competition took place over a single day, and was originally a straightforward knockout tournament between 16 teams, with the initial draw taking place prior to the match day. The teams invited were the premier South Wales teams, but occasionally if a team was on tour at the time clubs were invited from other areas, including English teams such as Leicester and Bath. Ebbw Vale won the tournament in 1958. Barry John
Barry John (born 6 January 1945) is a former Welsh rugby union fly-half who played, during the amateur era of the sport, in the 1960s, and early 1970s. John began his rugby career as a schoolboy playing for his local team Cefneithin RFC before switching to first-class west Wales team Llanelli RFC in 1964. It was while at Llanelli that John was first selected for the Wales national team, a shock selection as a replacement for David Watkins to face a touring Australian team. In 1967 John left Llanelli RFC for Cardiff RFC and here he formed a partnership with Gareth Edwards that became one of the most famous half-back pairings in world rugby. Jonathan Davies (rugby Player Born 1962)
Jonathan Davies, OBE (born 24 October 1962) is a Welsh former rugby footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s, and who represented Wales in both rugby union and rugby league. A goal-kicking backline player, he played his club rugby in Wales, England and Australia. Davies has since become a television commentator for both codes and media personality, in both the Welsh and English languages. South Wales Police RFC
South Wales Police Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in Bridgend, South Wales. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. In 2012, they withdrew from the Welsh league system due to lack of players, they will continue to play in police competitions and may return to the Welsh league in the future. Aled Williams (rugby Player)
Aled Williams (born 26 January 1964) is a Welsh former international rugby union player who made two appearances for the Wales national team, both as a replacement. He played in the top division of Welsh club rugby for Swansea RFC and Bridgend RFC between 1983 and 1997. Williams made his début for Swansea RFC in 1983 and played three full seasons for the club before moving to Bridgend RFC. Glamorgan Wanderers are a Welsh rugby union club based in Ely, west Cardiff in Wales. The club is located just to the north of Western Cemetery. They currently play in the WRU Admiral Championship. Mark Ring
Mark Gerarde Ring (born 15 October 1962) played rugby union for Cardiff, Pontypool and Wales between 1982 and 1996. He was regarded as among the most gifted players of his generation but his career was hampered by serious injury. Gwynfor James Williams (born 1 February 1956) is a former rugby union player. He played at scrum half or centre but club appearances for Cardiff RFC were limited by the presence of Gareth Edwards and Williams' older brother, Brynmor Williams. Peter Morgan (rugby Player)
Peter John Morgan (born 1 January 1959) is a former Welsh international rugby union player. He played on the wing. In 1980 he toured South Africa with the British Lions and at the time played club rugby for Llanelli RFC. Playing career Morgan played rugby from a young age including selection for the Welsh Youth team. After a spell playing with Haverfordwest RFC he switched to first class team Llanelli. Stuart Lane (born 12 November 1952) is a former international rugby union player. In 1980 he toured South Africa with the British and Irish Lions and at the time played club rugby for Cardiff RFC.
