Smyadovo ( bg, Смядово, ; ISO transliterated ''Smjadovo'') is a town in eastern Bulgaria, part of Shumen Province. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Smyadovo Municipality, which lies in the southeastern part of the province. As of December 2009, the town has a population of 4,036 inhabitants. The operatic mezzo soprano Alexandrina Miltcheva was born in Smyadovo on 27 November 1934. Smyadovo lies in the southeastern Danubian Plain, at the northern foot of the eastern Balkan Mountains. It was first mentioned in early Ottoman times (Evliya Çelebi mentions it as ''Smedovak'') and was proclaimed a town in 1969. Smyadovo Municipality
Smyadovo Municipality ( bg, Община Смядово) is a municipality ('' obshtina'') in Shumen Province, Northeastern Bulgaria, located in the vicinity of the northern slopes of the Eastern Stara planina mountain to the area of the so-called Fore-Balkan. It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Smyadovo. The municipality embraces a territory of 364.6 km² with a population of 7,402 inhabitants, as of December 2009. Smyadovo Cove ( bg, залив Смядово, zaliv Smyadovo, ) is a 900-meter wide cove indenting for 850 m the west coast of Rugged Island off the west coast of Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Entered north of Ugain Point and south of the southwest extremity of the small peninsula forming Cape Sheffield. Part of the cove's interior and entrance is occupied by Toledo Island and Prosechen Island. The cove is named after the town of Smyadovo in northeastern Bulgaria. Shumen Province ( bg, Област Шумен, transliterated ''Oblast Shumen'', former name Shumen okrug) is a province in northeastern Bulgaria named after its main city Shumen. It is divided into 10 municipalities with a total population, as of December 2009, of 194,090 inhabitants. The Main City The city of Shumen is famous in the region for the Monument to 1300 Years of Bulgaria.
