Robin Hood Flour is a brand of flour made by the Horizon Milling division of Cargill. The brand is marketed to the food service and industrial section by Horizon Milling and the consumer retail sector by The J.M. Smucker Company. History Originally established as a brand of the Moose Jaw Milling Company by miller Donald Mclean in 1900. New Prague Flouring Mill (of Minnesota), owned by Francis Atherton Bean of Minneapolis, purchased the mill in 1909. The company manufactured flour under the brand names Keynote, Saskana and Robin Hood. Acquisitions Through a series of acquisitions and restructurings, the company became ''International Multifoods Corporation'' in 1970. Jerome Monroe Smucker
Jerome Monroe Smucker (December 5, 1858 – March 20, 1948) was an American farmer and entrepreneur who founded The J.M. Smucker Company food and beverage firm in 1897, starting out selling apple butter from the back of a horse-drawn wagon. He was of Swiss descent. Biography Smucker, born in Wayne County, Ohio was the son of Ohio Mennonite farmers Gideon and Magadalena (Zook) Smucker. He built the family business to four farms and a creamery, while spending his evenings tutoring his neighbors in good penmanship. When he added a cider mill in 1897, Smucker's first batch of apples came from some of Johnny Appleseed's original orchards. To extend sales of apple products year-round, Smucker began manufacturing apple butter from an old family recipe, and it soon became his most popular product. Bick's Pickle
Bick's is a Canadian pickle producer originally based out of Scarborough, Ontario. The brand is now sold in Canada by U.S.-based The J.M. Smucker Co. Bick's emerged in 1951 in the Toronto area when local farmers George and Lena Bick and their sons Walter and Thomas began to pickle the cucumbers produced on their Knollview farm. Beginning as a small operation of 60,000 jars, the Bicks produced 12 million jars in 1960. The business was sold in 1966 to Kraft Foods Canada and later became part of International Multifoods. Walter Bick, one of the founders of Bick's Pickle, died on October 17, 2011 at the age of 94. Walter left behind four children, thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Milk-Bone is a brand of dog biscuit. It was created in 1908 by the F.H. Bennett Biscuit Company, which operated a bakery on the Lower East Side of New York City. Originally named "Maltoid", the biscuit was a bone-shaped treat made from minerals, meat products, and milk. The biscuits are made exclusively in Buffalo, New York. Kibbles 'n Bits is a brand name of dog food currently owned by The J.M. Smucker Company since it acquired its previous owner, Big Heart Pet Brands, in 2015. The brand was originally created in 1981 as the first dual textured dog food, having soft chewy pieces as well as hard crunchy ones. It was developed by Quaker Oats as part of their Ken'l Ration brand. In 1985, more bits ingredients were added to the dog food and the brand was renamed "Kibbles 'n Bits 'n Bits 'n Bits." Gravy Train is an American brand of dog food, currently owned by the J.M. Smucker Company after it acquired Big Heart Pet Brands in 2015. Originally developed by General Foods, the Gravy Train brand was introduced in 1959 and trademarked in 1960. Smucker (after it acquired Big Heart Pet Brands, a former division of Del Monte in 2015) and introduced to the market by tuna processor StarKist Foods in 1959.
