Smoke Lightning
''Smoke Lightning'' is a 1933 American Pre-Code Western film directed by David Howard and written by Sidney D. Mitchell and Gordon Rigby. The film stars George O'Brien, Nell O'Day, Betsy King Ross, Frank Atkinson, Clarence Wilson and Morgan Wallace. It is based on the story "Cañon Walls" by Zane Grey. The film was released on February 17, 1933, by Fox Film Corporation. Plot Blake (E. Alyn Warren) commits suicide after Smoke ( George O'Brien) wins the Blake ranch in a poker game, and Smoke transfers the ranch to Blake's little daughter (Betsy King Ross). The Sheriff (Morgan Wallace), on the other hand, is after the ranch and has Smoke arrested for the murder of Blake, before bringing in a fake relative to appear as the girl's relative. David Howard (October 6, 1896 – December 21, 1941) was an American film director. He directed 46 films between 1930 and 1941. He was born as David Paget Davis III in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died in Los Angeles, California. Richard Carle
Richard Carle (born Charles Nicholas Carleton, July 7, 1871 – June 28, 1941) was an American stage and film actor as well as a playwright and stage director. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1915 and 1941. Carle was born in Somerville, Massachusetts. He was on the stage for many years, appearing in important roles in London, New York and Chicago including as J. Offenbach Gaggs in ''The Casino Girl'' (1900)'The Polite Lunatic at Close Quarters' - ''The Sketch'' 12 September 1900, pg. 327 and Algy Cuffs in ''The Belle of Bohemia'' in London in 1901 before making his screen debut. Douglass Rupert Dumbrille (October 13, 1889 – April 2, 1974) was a Canadian actor who appeared regularly in films from the early 1930s. Life and career Douglass Dumbrille ( ) was born in Hamilton, Ontario. As a young man, he was employed as a bank clerk in Hamilton while pursuing an interest in acting. He eventually left banking for the theatre, finding work with a stock company that led him to Chicago, Illinois, and another that toured the United States. In 1913, the East Coast film industry was flourishing and that year he appeared in the film ''What Eighty Million Women Want'', but it would be another 11 years before he appeared on screen again. In 1924, he made his Broadway debut and worked off and on in the theatre for several years while supplementing his income by selling such products as car accessories, tea, insurance, real estate, and books.
