Smetana, Texas
Smetana is an unincorporated community in Brazos County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 80 in 2000. It is located within the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area. History The area in what is known as Smetana today was first settled by Bohemian families in the early 1880s. A small store was in operation in 1885. A post office was established at Smetana in 1896 and remained in operation until 1906. There were four businesses, several scattered homes, and two separate cemeteries for Black and White people in 1941. Its population was 50 from the 1930s to the 1940s, shrank to 20 in 1962, but then grew to 80 in 1990 and remained there through 2000. This was due to the growth of the Bryan-College Station area and Texas A&M University. Bryan Independent School District is a public school district based in Bryan, Texas (USA). It also serves rural areas in northern Brazos County, and a small portion of Robertson County. Bryan, Texas
Bryan is a city and the county seat of Brazos County, Texas, United States. It is located in the heart of the Brazos Valley (East and Central Texas). As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 83,980. Bryan borders the city of College Station, which lies to its south. Together they are referred to as the Bryan–College Station metropolitan area, which has a population of more than 250,069. Texas State Highway 21
State Highway 21 (SH 21) runs from the Texas-Louisiana boundary east of San Augustine to San Marcos in east and central Texas. SH 21 mostly follows the alignment of the Old San Antonio Road and the El Camino Real, except for the portion between Midway and Bryan, where the Old San Antonio Road took a more northerly route, and SH 21 follows a more direct route. That section of the Old San Antonio Road is served by Texas State Highway OSR.
