"Small Town" is a 1985 song written by John Mellencamp and released on his 1985 album ''Scarecrow''. The song reached #6 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart and #13 Adult Contemporary. Content Mellencamp wrote the song about his experiences growing up in a small town in Indiana, having been born in Seymour, Indiana, and living in Bloomington, Indiana, which, at the time of the release of the song, was larger. ''Small Town'' is a live album by Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan recorded at the Village Vanguard in March 2016 and released on ECM May the following year—Frisell's first album as leader for the label since 1987's '' Lookout for Hope''. More music from the same recording session was released in 2019 as the follow-up album, ''Epistrophy''. Reception The AllMusic review by Thom Jurek states, "Morgan is a deeply intuitive player with a glorious earthy, woody tone. Peter Sculthorpe
Peter Joshua Sculthorpe (29 April 1929 – 8 August 2014) was an Australian composer. Much of his music resulted from an interest in the music of countries neighboring Australia as well as from the impulse to bring together aspects of Aboriginal Australian music with that of the heritage of the West. He was known primarily for his orchestral and chamber music, such as '' Kakadu'' (1988) and ''Earth Cry'' (1986), which evoke the sounds and feeling of the Australian bushland and outback. He also wrote 18 string quartets, using unusual timbral effects, works for piano, and two operas. He stated that he wanted his music to make people feel better and happier for having listened to it. He typically avoided the dense, atonal techniques of many of his contemporary composers. His work was often distinguished by its distinctive use of percussion. "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" is a song by the American rock band Pearl Jam. The song is the tenth track on the band's second studio album, '' Vs.'' (1993). Although credited to all members of Pearl Jam, it was primarily written by vocalist Eddie Vedder. The length of the song's title was a reaction by the band to the fact that most of its songs featured one-word titles. The song is often referred to simply as "Elderly Woman" or "Small Town" by the band and its fans. "Small Town" is the thirteenth episode of the first season of the television series '' Sports Night'', written by Aaron Sorkin and Paul Redford, and directed by Thomas Schlamme, premiered on ABC in the United States on January 12, 1999. In the episode, Dana and Casey are supposed to take the night off but are reluctant to do so. They choose to have a double date, Dana with Gordon and Casey with blind date Lisa. Natalie is left to produce the show for the first time, and has to handle a late trade, and Isaac and Jeremy question her authority amongst the rush of the deadline. Bobbi Bernstein, Casey's replacement for the night, claims that Dan slept with her in Spain and failed to call her afterwards, which Dan disputes, calling her "psychotic". In a subsequent episode, "Eli's Coming", Dan learns Bobbi is not wrong, but her appearance was different at the time, and Dan knew her as "Roberta". Gerard Barrett is an Irish filmmaker. He came to prominence when he won the Rising Star Award at the 10th Irish Film & Television Awards for his debut, '' Pilgrim Hill''. His follow-up ''Glassland'' starred Jack Reynor as a young man who tries to help his mother (Toni Collette). In 2015, Barrett filmed '' Brain on Fire'' based on the book of the same name, starring Chloë Grace Moretz in New York City and Canada. His television mini-series ''Smalltown'' was screened in Ireland in September 2016.
