Smalltown Poets
Smalltown Poets is a Christian rock band formed in 1996. It was formed in Tifton, Georgia by high school friends Michael Johnston (guitars/vocals), Danny Stephens (keyboards), and Byron Goggin (drums), along with (then) Nashville musicians Kevin Breuner (guitar), and Miguel DeJesus (bass). The band started under the name Villanelle. Career Smalltown Poets achieved recognition with their eponymous first album, released on Ardent Records in 1997. This release earned the band the first of its two Grammy nominations (Best Gospel Rock Album) and numerous Dove Award nominations. In 1998 they released their second album, '' Listen Closely''. The song "Anything Genuine" from that album became their biggest hit. Their third album, ''Third Verse'' was released in 2000. ''Smalltown Poets'' is the self-titled debut album by the Christian rock band of the same name. It was released by ForeFront Records on March 25, 1997 as an enhanced CD and audio cassette tape. The CD contains three music videos: "Everything I Hate", "Who You Are" and "I'll Give". The album sold over 200,000 copies and had six Top 20 singles, among them two number-one singles. ''7ball'' is a discontinued Christian music magazine, first published in 1995. They focused on rock, hip-hop, and other "alternative" forms of Christian music. The magazine was initially published by the Royal Magazine Group (a division of Thomas Nelson) alongside ''Release'' magazine and others. Its primary competition were magazines such as '' HM'', ''True Tunes News'', and '' CCM''. Background ''7ball'' magazine was initially edited by Chris Well, former editor of the Christian rock magazine ''Syndicate'', until 1996. In 1996, the magazine was sold to VoxCorp (Nashville). Surfonic Water Revival
''Surfonic Water Revival'' is a various artists compilation album which was recorded and released in 1998 by KMG Records. The album pays tribute to the pioneers of Surf music like Brian Wilson, Jan and Dean, the Belairs, the Hondells, the Surfaris, the Ventures, Beach Boys, Dick Dale and many others. The album was produced by Terry Scott Taylor who also wrote the majority of the songs which were all recorded exclusively for this album. Nearly every track on the album teams up multiple artists or bands who then join forces to deliver their best tribute to the genre. In some cases, the artists attempt to mix other styles of music with surf music, such as The Insyderz on "A Good Sailor Knows," where the artists attempt to blend their own style of Ska music with Surf.
