Small Business Party (2016)
The Small Business Party (formerly Micro Business Party and WAxit Party) is a political party registered in the Australian state of Western Australia. The party's primary platform is secessionism of Western Australia from the Federation. History An earlier Small Business Party of Western Australia merged into the Micro Business Party (established in 2016) before the 2017 state election. In the 2017 Western Australian election, the Micro Business Party fielded 46 candidates in the Legislative Assembly (out of 59 electorates) and 14 candidates across the six regions for the Legislative Council. The party received 13,211 first preference votes for Legislative Assembly seats (representing 1% of votes cast), and 7,484 votes for the Legislative Council. The Small Business Party
The Small Business Party (SBP) is a political party in New South Wales, Australia. Their party advocates for the small business sector. The party was founded in 2017 by Angela Vithoulkas, a City of Sydney councillor and café-operator. The party claims that the major parties focus too much on the larger businesses, and ignore the smaller ones, even though the vast majority are small businesses. The party's platform mostly focuses on lowering taxes associated with business, however they also advocate for better education and out of school care for children. They also have a policy to cut immigration, as the party claims that the infrastructure in New South Wales is inadequate for sustaining immigration. The federal party was deregistered on 23 August 2021 due to the party ceasing to have at least 500 members but remained registered with the New South Wales Electoral Commission. The Western Australia Party is a regional political party active in Western Australia. The party was founded in 2016 by Julie Matheson, a councillor with the City of Subiaco as Julie Matheson for Western Australia to contest the 2017 state election. In July 2017, the party's name was changed to the Western Australia Party. The party's ideological focus is a combination of centrism, populism and regionalism, drawing from the position of Matheson and John Forrest. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Secessionism has been a recurring feature of Western Australia's political landscape since shortly after Federation in 1901. The idea of self-governance or secession has often been discussed through local newspaper articles and editorials. On a number of occasions secession has been a serious political issue for the State, including in a successful but unimplemented 1933 state referendum. One recurring argument by proponents of secession is based on the assumption that a federal government in Canberra will favour the business and popular interests of the larger population centres lying to the east of this state. A common complaint is that Western Australia is a forgotten or Cinderella state, which contributes more to federal funds than it gets back, and is discriminated against by the more populous states. 2017 Western Australian State Election
The 2017 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 11 March 2017 to elect members to the Parliament of Western Australia, including all 59 seats in the Legislative Assembly and all 36 seats in the Legislative Council. The eight-and-a-half-year two-term incumbent Liberal– WA National government, led by Premier Colin Barnett, was defeated in a landslide by the Labor opposition, led by Opposition Leader Mark McGowan. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. The Western Australian Legislative Council is the upper house of the Parliament of Western Australia, a state of Australia. It is regarded as a house of review for legislation passed by the Legislative Assembly, the lower house. The two Houses of Parliament sit in Parliament House in the state capital, Perth. Effective on 20 May 2005, for the election of members of the Legislative Council, the State was divided into 6 electoral regions by community of interest —3 metropolitan and 3 rural—each electing 6 members to the Legislative Council..
