Slovaks, Forward
Slovaks Forward ( sk, Slováci vpred; sr-cyrl, Словаци напред, Slovaci napred, SN) is a political party in Serbia representing the Slovak national minority. Its leader is Pavel Surovi. The party is aligned with Aleksandar Vučić and the Serbian Progressive Party (''Srpska napredna stranka'', SNS). Slovak National Council Slovaks Forward won nine out of twenty-nine seats in Serbia's 2014 Slovak National Council election and eight seats in the 2018 election. Surovi was chosen as council vice-president after the 2018 election, although he was removed from this role in February 2021. Pavel Surovi
Pavel Surovi ( sr-cyr, Павел Сурови, ; born 1980), is a politician in Serbia from the country's Slovaks in Serbia, Slovak community. He is the leader of the Slovaks Forward party and has been a member of the Assembly of Vojvodina since 2016. Private career Surovi lives in Novi Sad and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Informatics. He has won awards as a graphic designer. Described as a passionate collector of Vojvodina Slovak folk costumes from before World War II, he has authored four photographic displays of Slovak culture in Serbia. The most recent, ''Corona'' (2020), was named both for the fact that it debuted during the COVID-19 pandemic (otherwise known as the coronavirus pandemic) and because of parallels between traditional Slovak clothing and European royal garb ("corona" translating as "crown"). Serbian Progressive Party
The Serbian Progressive Party ( sr-cyrl, Српска напредна странка, Srpska napredna stranka, SNS) has been the ruling political party of Serbia since 2012. Founded by Tomislav Nikolić and Aleksandar Vučić in 2008 as a split from the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), the SNS served in opposition to the Democratic Party (DS) for the next several years. Running on an anti-corruption platform, it managed a strong performance in the 2009 Belgrade local elections, and in the same year, became the strongest opposition party. After signing a cooperation agreement with New Serbia (NS), the Movement of Socialists (PS), and the Strength of Serbia Movement (PSS), it organized protests in 2011, demanding early parliamentary elections. Aleksandar Vučić ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Вучић, ; born 5 March 1970) is a Serbian politician serving as the president of Serbia since 2017, and as the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) since 2012. Vučić served as the Prime Minister of Serbia in two terms, from 2014 to 2016 and from 2016 until 2017, as well as the deputy prime minister from 2012 until 2014. Furthermore, he served as a member of the Serbian parliament, Minister of Information from 1998 to 2000, and later as Minister of Defence from 2012 to 2013. According to the 2011 census, Slovaks ( sr, Словаци, Slovaci) in Serbia number 52,750, constituting 0.7% of the country's population. They mainly live in Vojvodina (50,321), where they constitute the third largest ethnic group after Serbs and Hungarians. Like other ethnic Slovaks, they speak the Slovak language, but most of them are Protestant ( Evangelical-Augsburg Church, a Lutheran Protestant denomination) by faith and not Roman Catholic like most Slovaks in Slovakia.
