Slim (film)
''Slim'' is a 1937 American romantic drama film directed by Ray Enright and starring Pat O'Brien and Henry Fonda. It is sometimes (incorrectly) called ''Slim the Lineman''. The picture is a film adaptation of the 1934 novel ''Slim'' by William Wister Haines, which concerns linemen in the electric power industry. The supporting cast features Margaret Lindsay and Jane Wyman. Plot Slim, a farmer from southeastern Ohio, becomes fascinated by a crew of linemen erecting transmission towers across his uncle and aunt's property. He asks Pop (J. Farrell MacDonald) for a job, but there are no openings. When a man is fired, however, Red (Pat O'Brien), Pop's best lineman, takes a liking to Slim and persuades Pop to give him a chance as a "grunt", an assistant on the ground who sends up tools and parts. Ray Enright
Ray Enright (March 25, 1896 – April 3, 1965) was an American film director. He directed 73 films between 1927–53, many of them for Warner Bros. He oversaw comedy films like Joe E. Brown vehicles, five of the six informal pairings of Joan Blondell and Glenda Farrell, and later directed a number of Westerns, many featuring Randolph Scott. Enright was born in Anderson, Indiana, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. Joe Sawyer
Joe Sawyer (born Joseph Sauers, August 29, 1906 – April 21, 1982) was a Canadian film actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1927 and 1962, and was sometimes billed under his birth name. Early life Sawyer was born August 29, 1906 as ''Joseph Sauers'' in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. His parents were German. In his 20s he went to Los Angeles to pursue a career in films. Career Sawyer gained acting experience in the Pasadena Playhouse. Productions in which he performed there included '' Quinneys'', ''The Wolves'', and ''White Wings''. ''Manpower'' is a 1941 American crime comedy drama film directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Edward G. Robinson, Marlene Dietrich, and George Raft. The picture was written by Richard Macauley and Jerry Wald, and the supporting cast features Alan Hale, Frank McHugh, Eve Arden, Barton MacLane, Ward Bond and Walter Catlett. Robinson and Raft got into a fistfight on the set that was eagerly splashed all over the front pages of the nation's newspapers. Victor McLaglen was originally going to play Robinson's role, which would have made it a supporting part, and Raft reportedly resented sharing leading man status on the film as a result of Robinson being cast instead. Craig Reynolds (born Harold Hugh Enfield, July 15, 1907 – October 22, 1949) was an American film actor of the 1930s and 1940s. Early life and career Reynolds was born in Anaheim, California, in 1907, the son of Leila Maybelle (née Goold) and Oscar Davenport Enfield. Reynolds enjoyed a film career spanning the 1930s and 1940s, although the majority of his roles occurred during the first decade of his career. As an actor with Warner Brothers he was seen as a rising star and played second lead in several films throughout the 1930s.
