Avishai Cohen (bassist)
Avishai Cohen ( he, אבישי כהן; born April 20, 1970) is an Israeli jazz double bassist, composer, singer, and arranger. Early life Avishai was born in Kabri, a kibbutz in northern Israel. He has Spanish-Jewish, Greek-Jewish and Polish-Jewish ancestry. He grew up in a musical family at Motza and Beit Zayit near Jerusalem until the age of six, when his family moved to nearby Shoeva. He began playing the piano at 9 years old but changed to the bass guitar at the age of 14, inspired by bassist Jaco Pastorius, whose music was introduced to Cohen by a music teacher in St Louis, Missouri, where Cohen had moved with his family as a teenager. David Lyttle (born 21 June 1984) is a jazz drummer, hip hop producer, composer and record label owner from Waringstown, Northern Ireland. He has released four solo albums and received nominations in the MOBO Awards and Urban Music Awards. Performing career Lyttle began performing under the direction of his parents with the Lyttle Family and in his teens was active as a drummer, DJ and studied classical cello. He began his jazz career in the band of Louis Stewart in 2007 and released his debut album ''True Story'' the same year. Linley Hamilton (born 17 March 1965) is a musician, educator and broadcaster from Northern Ireland. He is a Dr. of Jazz Performance and Lecturer of Music at Ulster University Magee. He presents ''Jazz World with Linley Hamilton'' on BBC Radio Ulster and leads his own jazz quintet playing trumpet and flugelhorn. Hamilton's associations as a session musician include Van Morrison, Jacqui Dankworth, Andrew Strong and Paul Brady. Mike Nielsen
Mike Nielsen (born 21 February 1961) is an Irish guitarist, composer, and educator specializing in jazz and improvised music. Career Born in Sligo, he began on ukulele at the age of four. He studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Dublin College of Music as well as the Berklee College, Boston. Performing on acoustic and electric guitars, he has worked with Kenny Wheeler, Larry Coryell, Kenny Werner, Jason Moran, Simon Nabatov, Eric Revis, Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman, with whom he toured Europe in 2001, New Zealand/Australia in 2004 and has recorded two albums. He has also performed with the Crash Ensemble and featured as a soloist with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Louis Stewart (guitarist)
Louis Stewart (5 January 1944 – 20 August 2016) was an Irish jazz guitarist. Life and career Born in Waterford, Ireland, Stewart grew up in Dublin. He began playing guitar when he was thirteen, influenced by guitarists Les Paul and Barney Kessel. Stewart began his professional career performing in Dublin showbands. In 1968, he won an award as the most outstanding soloist at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Soon after, he spent three years with Benny Goodman. Stewart recorded his debut album, ''Louis the First'' in Dublin, and then recorded in London with Billy Higgins, Peter Ind, Sam Jones (musician), Sam Jones, Red Mitchell, and Spike Robinson. From the mid to late 1970s, he worked with George Shearing, touring America, Brazil, and playing European festivals, and recording eight albums, including several for the MPS label in a virtuosic trio with Shearing and the Danish bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. Todd Coolman
Todd Coolman (born July 14, 1954) is a jazz bassist and a retired tenured Professor of Music at the Jazz Studies Program in the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in Westchester County, New York. He is also the former Artistic Director of the Skidmore Jazz Institute. Coolman grew up in Gary, Indiana. In 1978 he moved to New York City. He has since then performed with Horace Silver, Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman, Slide Hampton, Stan Getz, Tommy Flanagan, and countless others. He is probably best known for his 26-year association with the James Moody Quartet. Cleveland Watkiss, (born 21 October 1959), is a British vocalist, actor, and composer. Biography Cleveland Watkiss was born in Hackney, East London, to Jamaican parents, and was one of nine children. He is the older brother of pianist Trevor Watkis (and the different spelling of their surname is deliberate). At age 16, he won twice in a local singing talent competition, hosted by "FatMan" of FatMan Sound System (North East London Based Roots, Reggae & Dub Sound System). Watkiss studied at the London School of Singing with opera coach Arnold Rose and subsequently at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Lionel Grigson. Dominique Di Piazza, born in Lyon, France, in 1959, is an electric bass player. Di Piazza discovered the bass in 1979. Already a self-taught guitarist, Di Piazza developed a distinctive, but unorthodox 'closed palm' technique of picking with the right hand thumb, index, and middle fingers, giving him a speed not often heard in electric bass players. A member of the John McLaughlin Trio" from 1991 to 1992 along with Trilok Gurtu a world tour of 300 concerts and an album ''Que Alegria''. Rufus Reid
Rufus Reid (born February 10, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American jazz bassist, educator, and composer. Biography Reid was raised in Sacramento, California, where he played the trumpet through junior high and high school. Upon graduation from Sacramento High School, he entered the United States Air Force as a trumpet player. During that period he began to be seriously interested in the bass. After fulfilling his duties in the military, Rufus had decided he wanted to pursue a career as a professional bassist. He moved to Seattle, Washington, where he began serious study with James Harnett of the Seattle Symphony. He continued his education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he studied with Warren Benfield and principal bassist, Joseph Guastefeste, both of the Chicago Symphony.
