Sligo County Council
Sligo County Council ( ga, Comhairle Chontae Shligigh) is the authority responsible for local government in County Sligo, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 18 elected members. Elections are held every five years and are by single transferable vote. The head of the council has the title of Cathaoirleach (Chairperson). The county administration is headed by a Chief Executive, Martin Lydon. The county town is Sligo. History Originally meetings of Sligo County Council were held at Sligo Courthouse. Housing, or more generally, living spaces, refers to the construction and assigned usage of houses or buildings individually or collectively, for the purpose of shelter. A local electoral area (LEA; ga, Toghlimistéir Áitiúil) is an electoral area for elections to local authorities in Ireland. All elections use the single transferable vote. Standards In Public Office Commission
The Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) ( ga, Coimisiún um Chaighdeáin in Oifigí Poiblí) is an independent body established in December 2001 by the Irish Government under the Standards in Public Office Act, 2001. It replaced the Public Offices Commission which was established in November 1995 by the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995. The current government has enacted legislation to introduce an Electoral Commission, which would initially replace SIPO's electoral functions as well as handling other functions relating to elections and referendums in the state. ''Standards in Public Office'' is the title of an RTÉ programme broadcast on 7 December 2015. The programme featured three politicians, Hugh McElvaney (an independent former Mayor of Monaghan who had just left Fine Gael), Joe Queenan of Fianna Fáil and John O'Donnell (another independent), in compromising positions. It was presented by Conor Ryan. Queenan immediately resigned from Fianna Fáil. McElvaney was asked to resign by his fellow public representatives, as was O'Donnell. All three were dismissed from their representative body, the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA), though John O'Donnell initially refused to leave and then had his membership revoked. Sligo Courthouse
Sligo Courthouse is a judicial facility on Teeling Street in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland. History The courthouse, which was designed by James Rawson Carroll in the French Gothic architecture, French gothic style and built in ashlar stone, was completed in 1878. The design involved an asymmetrical main frontage with ten bays facing Teeling Street; the central section of the three bays was arcaded on the ground floor and contained a six-part mullioned window on the first floor flanked by bartizans; the gable above contained two pairs of mullioned windows and a circular panel. There was a four-stage octagonal tower with a spire in the left hand section. Single transferable vote (STV) is a multi-winner electoral system in which voters cast a single vote in the form of a ranked-choice ballot.
