Sleepy Lagoon (film)
''Sleepy Lagoon'' is a 1943 American musical comedy film directed by Joseph Santley and featuring comedian Judy Canova and singer Dennis Day. The film was written by Prescott Chaplin, and Frank Gill, Jr. and George Carleton Brown wrote the screenplay. It was Canova's final feature for Republic until 1951. While closely coincident in time, the movie was entirely unrelated to the Sleepy Lagoon murder that led to the Zoot Suit Riots, nor to the song that lent its name to that incident. Joseph Santley
Joseph Mansfield Santley (born Joseph Ishmael Mansfield, January 10, 1890 – August 8, 1971) was an American actor, singer, dancer, writer, director, and producer of musical theatre, musical theatre, theatrical plays motion pictures and television shows. He adopted the stage name of his stepfather, actor Eugene Santley. Life and career Joseph Santley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a boy, he and older brother Fred Santley, Fred began performing in live theatre appearing in summer stock and touring with their parents. In 1906, at age seventeen, Joseph Santley co-wrote and starred on Broadway theatre, Broadway in the play, ''Billy the Kid#Stage, Billy the Kid''. Forrest Taylor
Edwin Forrest Taylor (December 29, 1883 – February 19, 1965) was an American character actor whose artistic career spanned six different decades, from silents through talkies to the advent of color films. Early years Taylor was born in Bloomington, Illinois. His father managed the Dreamland Theatre in Kewanee, Illinois, and a news item in 1916 reported, "Manager Chris Taylor of Dreamland at Kewanee features his son, E. Forrest Taylor, in Western pictures every Monday." Career Stage Taylor was a veteran of the stage by the time he started appearing as a silent lead in both short and feature-length films. Rondo Hatton (April 22, 1894 – February 2, 1946) was an American journalist and actor. After writing for ''The Tampa Tribune'', Hatton found a career in film due to his unique facial features, which were the result of acromegaly. He headlined horror films with Universal Studios near the end of his life, earning him a reputation as a cult icon. Early years Hatton was born in the Kee Mar College girls' infirmary in Hagerstown, Maryland. The family moved several times during Hatton's youth before settling in Tampa, Florida. He starred in track and football at Hillsborough High School and was voted Handsomest Boy in his class his senior year. In Tampa, Hatton worked as a sportswriter for ''The Tampa Tribune''.
