Sleepover (film)
''Sleepover'' is a 2004 American teen comedy film directed by Joe Nussbaum, in his feature film directorial debut. The film stars Alexa Vega and Mika Boorem with supporting roles from Jane Lynch, Sara Paxton, Brie Larson, Steve Carell and Jeff Garlin. It was released theatrically in the United States on July 9, 2004 and was both a box office and critical failure upon its release, but has since become a cult classic among fans who viewed the film through the ancillary market in subsequent years. Plot On the last day of 8th grade before their freshman year in high school, Julie Corky has a slumber party with three best friends, Hannah Carlson, Farrah James, and Yancy Williams. A group of popular girls, led by a former friend of Julie's, Staci Blake, challenge the girls to a scavenger hunt after Staci's boyfriend dumps her, barring her from the high school dance. Joe Nussbaum
Joseph Nussbaum (born January 10, 1973) is an American film director and screenwriter. Nussbaum got his break into the film industry by passing around Hollywood offices his short film ''George Lucas in Love''. The success of the film eventually got him a deal with DreamWorks, and he has since directed films such as the 2004 production ''Sleepover'', the 2006 film '' American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile'' and the 2007 film ''Sydney White'' starring Amanda Bynes. He has also co-written such screenplays as 2016's ''The Late Bloomer''. He also directed the Walt Disney Pictures film ''Prom'', starring Aimee Teegarden and Nicholas Braun. Nussbaum also directed a number of television series including MTV's ''Awkward'' and ''Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous'', ABC's '' Back in the Game'' and ''Super Fun Night'', and FOX's ''Surviving Jack''. Ancillary markets are non-theatrical markets for feature films, like home video, television, Pay Per View, VOD, Internet streaming, airlines and others. History Before television, studios played their films in theaters exclusively. However, in 1950 many studios began to sell all their pre-1948 features to television syndicators. The television syndicators then would use these films to fill in their programming schedules. Back in the 1960s, the first domestic ancillary market for feature films was created.
