Albert Sleeper
Albert Edson Sleeper (December 31, 1862 – May 13, 1934) was an American politician and served as the 29th Governor of Michigan from 1917 to 1921. Biography Sleeper was born on December 31, 1862, in Bradford, Vermont and was educated at the Bradford Academy. In 1884, he moved to Lexington, Michigan, where he was a successful businessman owning several banks and extensive real estate. Sleeper also worked in mercantile industries. In 1901, he married Mary C. Moore. Sleeper served in the Michigan State Senate, 1901–1904. The following year, he became a member of the Republican State Committee until 1907. Then he served as State Treasurer of Michigan from 1909 to 1913 under Governors, Fred M. Warner and Chase Osborn. Sleeper was elected Governor of Michigan by a popular vote on November 7, 1916, defeating Democrat Edwin F. Sweet. He was re-elected to a second term in 1918. Henry Davis Sleeper (March 27, 1878 – September 22, 1934) was an American antiquarian, collector, and interior decorator best known for Beauport, his Gloucester, Massachusetts, country home that is "one of the most widely published houses of the twentieth century." Josiah Sleeper
Josiah Sleeper (18??–1946) was an American businessman who founded Sleeper's College (sometimes referred to as Sleeper's Business College) in Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1910. Sleeper attended grammar, or perhaps high school, at The Old Academy, located on West 2nd Street between Fulton and Franklin Streets in Chester. Sleeper became well known in Delaware County. In the 1890s, he had at least partial control of a baseball team in Marcus Hook, some three miles southwest of Chester. He brought the team to Chester's 12th Street Park, which was bounded by 12th, Upland and Potter Streets. He eventually passed control of the team to local baseball impresario Jesse Frysinger, and it moved in 1900 to Wilmington, Delaware. In October 1921, Sleeper bought part of the "Brow O' the Hill" estate at 8 Irving Road, Wallingford, Pennsylvania, from D. Edwin Irving for $4,250. Martha Sleeper (June 24, 1910 – March 25, 1983) was a film actress of the 1920s–1930s and, later, a Broadway stage actress. She studied dancing for five years with Russian ballet master, Louis H. Chalif, at his New York dancing studio. Her first public exhibitions were at Carnegie Hall at his class exhibitions. Family Sleeper reputedly spent her first years on a sheep ranch in Wyoming. Thomas M. Sleeper (February 16, 1956 – October 15, 2022) was an American composer and conductor. His music has been described as 'hauntingly mysterious' and 'richly lyrical'. He was the Director of Orchestral Activities and Conductor of the University of Miami Frost Symphony Orchestra until his retirement in 2018. William True Sleeper
William True Sleeper (February 9, 1819 - September 24, 1904) was an American Congregationalist clergyman, educator, poet, and hymn-writer. William Sleeper was born in Danbury, New Hampshire on February 9, 1819 to Johnathan and Mary Sleeper. He attended the Phillips Exeter Academy for preparatory school in Exeter, New Hampshire, and then graduated from the University of Vermont in 1850 and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1858. Sleeper and his wife Emily both taught at Woodman Sanbornton Academy before his ordination. After ordination on June 29, 1854, he did missionary work in Worcester, Massachusetts and was Chaplain of the State Reform School for Boys from 1856 to 1860.
