''Keep Off'' ( nl, Afblijven) is a 2006 Dutch children's film, based on the children's novel '' Afblijven'' by Carry Slee. The film, much like the book, explores drug abuse by adolescents and the negative effects it has on their lives. The film received a Golden Film (100,000 visitors). Plot Fourteen-year-old Melissa (Sem Veeger) pretends she's taking ballet lessons, to please her strict father, while she is in fact a hip hop dancer. She is given the opportunity to audition for background dancer in a video clip, but grows uncertain of her abilities. A newly met friend, Jim, gives her XTC, which enhances her performance. She is then selected to be in the music video. Her close friends Jordi and Fleur watch as Melissa becomes dependent on both XTC and Jim, who is now her new boyfriend, but can't convince Melissa she is making a wrong turn. Colin Slee
Colin Bruce Slee, OBE (10 November 1945 – 25 November 2010) was a priest in the Church of England, most notable for his final position as Dean of Southwark Cathedral from 1994 until his death. A friend of Desmond Tutu and Rowan Williams, Slee's churchmanship was liberal (he was influenced by the book ''Honest to God'' during his youth) and Anglo-Catholic. He gave his backing to Jeffrey John's nomination as a bishop in 2003 and was opposed to the use of the hymn "Jerusalem" in church. Early life Slee was born on 10 November 1945 in West London, as the son of a policeman. He was educated at Ealing Grammar School for Boys and then spent nearly two years in Papua New Guinea on Voluntary Service Overseas before studying theology at King's College London (where he won a university "purple" in rowing). George Slee (died 1 September 1613) of the Great House, Peter Street, Tiverton, Devon, was a wealthy wool merchant and clothier. John Slee
John Gough ( ; 17 January 1757 – 28 July 1825) was a blind English natural and experimental philosopher who is known for his own investigations as well as the influence he had on both John Dalton and William Whewell. Life John Gough was born in Kendal, Westmorland, on 17 January 1757, the eldest child of Nathan Gough (d. 1800) and his wife, Susannah (1731–1798). Gough's father was a wool dyer and shearman dyer, while his mother was the eldest daughter of John Wilson, a prosperous farmer with an estate on the west bank of Windermere. Nathan and Susannah Gough had three sons and four daughters, one of whom died in infancy. The family belonged to the Society of Friends, whose communities flourished in Cumberland and Westmorland during this period. Lanty Slee
Lancelot 'Lanty' Slee (1800/1802–1878) was a Lake District farmer, quarryman and notorious smuggler. The name 'Lanty' is a diminutive for Lancelot used in the Lake District. Life Slee, a 'stiff, fresh faced man of great endurance', was of Irish descent but originally came from Borrowdale and lived in Little Langdale for most of his life. He is variously reported to have been a farmer and a quarryman as a day job but also had a thriving business in smuggling. Slee operated multiple illicit stills for production of moonshine whisky which he sold for 10 shillings per gallon, or smuggled with pack horses via Wrynose Pass and Hardknott to Ravenglass. He transported smuggled tobacco on the return journey. The whisky was sold to "discerning local gentry and professional classes" including a local magistrate. Michael John Slee (born 23 August 1959) is a British film-maker, producer/director and writer. Life and career Born in Windlesham, Surrey, Slee studied Art & Design at Kingston University, and graduated with a first class honours degree from the London College of Printing in Photography, Film and TV. He first achieved industry recognition for directing James Burke, in the 1989 ACE Award-winning PBS documentary series ''After the Warming''. This prescient series dealt with the issue of global warming, using virtual reality computer simulations. Slee then directed a 20-part TLC series with Burke, called '' Connections 2''. By 1997 he was at the forefront of large screen IMAX film making, co-devising and directing ''Wildfire – Feel the Heat'' for the Discovery Channel, and ''The Legend of Loch Lomond'' for the Strathclyde European Partnership. William Henry John Slee, FGS (1836–1907), was an Australian geologist, mines inspector, and mining warden. Origins and early life More usually known as W.H.J. Slee, or sometimes John Slee, he was born Wilhelm Heinrich Johann Slee on 3 May 1836 at Rostock, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, a son of Jacob and Regina Slee. There is uncertainty about his educational background, although he was highly articulate in both German and English. As a teenager he became a seaman. Aged 19, he sailed into Melbourne, on 20 December 1855 aboard the Chilean brig ''Pedro V'' from Valparaiso via Tahiti.
