Leb i sol ( mk, Леб и сол) is a Macedonian and former Yugoslav rock group founded in the 1970s by Vlatko Stefanovski (guitar), Bodan Arsovski (bass guitar), Nikola Kokan Dimuševski (keyboards) and Garabet Tavitjan (drums). Tavitjan ceded the drumwork to Dragoljub Đuričić for some of the albums, while Kiril Džajkovski replaced Kokan on ''Kao Kakao'' and ''Putujemo''. Beside being the most eminent Macedonian band, they were also one of the most important acts of the Yugoslav rock scene. History "Leb i sol" is a traditional greeting which literally translates to "bread and salt". It is often used as an expression of spite or determination; e.g. "I will eat ''bread and salt'' if I have to, but I will not give in!", but that has nothing to do with the band's name. Dragoljub Đuričić
Dragoljub Đuričić ( Serbian and Montenegrin Cyrillic: Драгољуб Ђуричић; 10 February 1953 – 15 March 2021) was a Serbia-based Montenegrin drummer. Đuričić started his career in the early 1970s in Herceg Novi, playing in local bands. In the mid-1970s he moved to Belgrade, where he soon started to perform with pop singers. He was a member of the progressive/hard rock band YU Grupa, jazz fusion band Leb i Sol and hard rock band Kerber. He performed with pop singer Zdravko Čolić and singer-songwriter Đorđe Balašević and worked as a studio musician. He formed several drum bands, performing with them across the world. He was also known for his role in the 1996–1997 protests in Serbia, during which he led a company of drummers, and participation in the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević. Bodan Arsovski
Bodan Arsovski (born 22 April 1956) is a Macedonian bassist and a core founding member of the rock group Leb i sol, one of the most important rock bands in the former Yugoslavia. He is the only band member to have played on every Leb i sol record. He also released four solo albums. Biography Arsovski was born in Kumanovo on the north of today's Macedonia. However, early in his life, his family moved to Skopje, state's capital, where he soon after met Vlatko Stefanovski, with whom he founded the legendary Yugoslav band Leb i Sol. Before Leb i Sol, all band members played together in Miki Petkovski's band Breg. As a solo artist, he has released four albums, two of them in collaboration with the Ezgija Orchestra. Vladimir "Vlatko" Stefanovski ( mk, Влатко Стефановски ) is a Macedonian ethno-rock jazz fusion guitar virtuoso. Biography Vlatko was born into a typical theatrical family. His parents, as artists, often traveled, so soon Stefanovski moved to Skopje, in the neighborhood Taftalidze. Vlatko Stefanovski lives with his family (consisting of daughter Ana and son Jan) in Skopje. His son (Jan Stefanovski) is a drummer in V.S.Trio (from 2021) Born in Prilep on 24 January 1957, he started playing guitar at the age of 13. Stefanovski was one of the founding members of Leb i sol with whom he recorded 13 albums between 1978 and 1991. Popular music in Yugoslavia includes the pop and rock music of the former SFR Yugoslavia, including all their genres and subgenres. Bread and salt is a welcome greeting ceremony in some Slavic, Nordic, Baltic, Balkan and other European cultures as well as in Middle Eastern cultures. It is also shared with some non-Slavic nations—Lithuanians, Latvians (both Baltic), Romanians (Romance) as well as some Finno-Ugric peoples like the Karelians—all of which are culturally and historically close to their Slavic neighbours. Jazz Fusion
Jazz fusion (also known as fusion and progressive jazz) is a music genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined jazz harmony and jazz improvisation, improvisation with rock music, funk, and rhythm and blues. Electric guitars, amplifiers, and keyboards that were popular in rock and roll started to be used by jazz musicians, particularly those who had grown up listening to rock and roll. Jazz fusion arrangements vary in complexity. Some employ groove-based vamps fixed to a single key or a single chord with a simple, repeated melody. Others use elaborate chord progressions, unconventional time signatures, or melodies with counter-melodies. Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand.
