Slavic Toponyms Of Places In Grevena Prefecture
Some inhabited places in Grevena Prefecture of Greece were previously known by different names. Some of the name forms are identifiably of Greek language, Greek origin, others of South Slavic language, Slavic, yet others of Turkish language, Turkish or more obscure origins. Grevena Prefecture
Grevena ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Γρεβενών, ''Perifereiakí Enótita Grevenón'') is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Macedonia. Its capital is the town of Grevena. Geography Grevena borders the regional units of Ioannina (Epirus) to the west, Kastoria to the northwest, Kozani to the north and east, Larissa to the southeast and Trikala to the south. The Pindus mountains cover the western part of the regional unit. Other mountain ranges are Chasia in the south and Vourinos in the northeast. The longest river is Aliakmon which flows in the north and the east. Administration The regional unit Grevena is subdivided into 2 municipalities. Myrsina () is a village and a community of the Grevena municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Grevena, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 263 residents in the village and 343 residents in the community. The community of Myrsina covers an area of 25.494 km2. Administrative division The community of Myrsina consists of two separate settlements: * Asprokampos (population 80) *Myrsina (population 263) The aforementioned population figures are as of 2011. Population According to the 2011 census, the population of the settlement of Myrsina was 263 people, almost the same population figure to that of the previous census of 2001. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Theodoros Ziakas, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 23 residents in the village. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Theodoros Ziakas, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 85 residents in the village. The community of Polyneri covers an area of 10.321 km2.

Kentro, Grevena
Kentro () is a village and a community of the Grevena municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Ventzio, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 102 residents in the village and 232 residents in the community. The community of Kentro covers an area of 42.42 km2. According to the statistics of Vasil Kanchov ("Macedonia, Ethnography and Statistics"), 207 Greek Christians and 150 Vallahades (Grecophone Muslims) lived in the village in 1900.
