Donald Martin Slaught (born September 11, 1958), nicknamed "Sluggo", is an American former professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1982 through 1997 for the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers (baseball), Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, California Angels, Chicago White Sox, and San Diego Padres. Early life Slaught was born in Long Beach, California. He attended El Camino College and UCLA and is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternities and sororities, Fraternity. In 1979, Slaught and UCLA pitcher Tim Leary were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America university all-star team. Slaught also was named an Academic All American in 1979. Slaught's 1979 batting average (baseball), batting average of .428 was a UCLA single-season record that stood until 2001. Lloyd McClendon
Lloyd Glenn McClendon (born January 11, 1959) is an American former professional baseball player, coach and manager. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as an outfielder from 1987 to 1994 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers. After his playing career McClendon served as the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001 to 2005 and the Seattle Mariners from 2014 to 2015. He most recently served as the interim manager for the Detroit Tigers in 2020. Playing career Amateur career In 1971, McClendon played in the Little League World Series for his hometown Gary, Indiana, team, and earned the nickname "Legendary Lloyd" by homering in five consecutive at bats. In fact, they were his only official at-bats, as in every other plate appearance the opposing coaches had him intentionally walked.
