Slattery is a surname of Irish origin. The name is an anglicisation of the ga, Ó Slatara or ''Ó Slatraigh'', meaning 'descendant of slatra' meaning 'robust', 'strong', 'bold'. The name originated in the townland of Ballyslattery in the barony of Tulla Upper in east County Clare, Ireland. Tadhg Slattery is a Paralympic swimmer from South Africa competing mainly in category SB5 events. He has cerebral palsy and is deaf. Slattery competed as part of the South African Paralympic swimming team at six Paralympic games. His first games in 1992 gave him his first Paralympic gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in a world record time, as well as finishing fourth in his heat in the 50m freestyle, eighth in the final of the 50m butterfly, seventh in his heat of both the 100m and 400m freestyle. Richard Philips, better known by his stage name Richard X, is a British songwriter and music producer. Gaining attention as a pioneer of the bootleg craze, Richard X has earned success as a producer and remixer. Michael "Boxer" Slattery is a hurler from County Kerry in Ireland. He has played with Ballyheigue and the Kerry senior team. Club career Slattery has won 3 County Senior Championships with Ballyheigue in 1996,1997 and 2000 when he was captain.
