''Slapstick and Old Lace'' is a British television sketch show which originally aired on ITV in 1971. Charlie Drake
Charles Edward Springall (19 June 1925 – 23 December 2006), known professionally as Charlie Drake, was an English comedian, actor, writer and singer. With his small stature (5' 1"/155 cm tall), curly red hair and liking for slapstick, he was a popular comedian with children in his early years, becoming nationally known for his "Hello, my darlings!" catchphrase. Early life Born Charles Edward Springall in the Elephant and Castle, Southwark, South London, he took his mother's maiden name for the stage and, later, film and television, achieving success as a comedian. Career Drake made his first appearance on stage at the age of eight, and after leaving school toured working men's clubs. Anna Dawson
Anna Dawson (born 27 July 1937) is an England, English actress and singer. Born in County Borough of Bolton, Bolton, Lancashire, Dawson spent part of her childhood in Tanganyika (territory), Tanganyika, where her father worked. She attended the Elmhurst School for Dance, Elmhurst Ballet School and after training at the Central School of Speech and Drama she learned her craft by playing in repertory theatre companies. Dawson went on to star in several West End theatre, West End musicals. She featured in episodes of ''Dixon of Dock Green'' during the 1960s, ''The Benny Hill Show'' during the 1980s, and played Hyacinth Bucket's sister List of Keeping Up Appearances characters#Violet and Bruce, Violet ("the one with the Mercedes, sauna and room for a pony") in the final series of the sitcom ''Keeping Up Appearances'', though her character was only featured on screen briefly in four episodes. Associated Television was the original name of the British broadcaster ATV, part of the Independent Television (ITV) network. It provided a service to London at weekends from 1955 to 1968, to the Midlands on weekdays from 1956 to 1968, and to the Midlands all week from 1968 to 1982. ''The Worker'' is a British sitcom that aired on ITV from 1965 to 1978. Co-written by and starring comedian Charlie Drake, the programme revolved around a man who has been dismissed from nearly 1,000 jobs. Arsenic And Old Lace (play)
''Arsenic and Old Lace'' is a play by American playwright Joseph Kesselring, written in 1939. It has become best known through the 1944 film adaptation starring Cary Grant and directed by Frank Capra. The play was produced by Lindsay and Crouse and directed by Bretaigne Windust, and opened on Broadway at the Fulton Theatre on January 10, 1941. On September 25, 1943, the play moved to the Hudson Theatre, closing there on June 17, 1944, having played 1,444 performances. The West End production - directed by Marcel Varnel and produced at London's Strand Theatre - enjoyed a similarly long run.
