Skytturnar (soundtrack)
''Skytturnar'' is the soundtrack to the Icelandic film directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson in 1987. This 12" EP was released through the Gramm-label and was produced by Kjartan Kjartansson and the renowned Tómas Magnús Tómasson. The soundtrack includes several well known Icelandic artists such as Bubbi & MX-21, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Sykurmolarnir (later known as The Sugarcubes) with the collaboration of Þór Eldon Jónsson (who would later join the band). The soundtrack EP includes four of the songs used in ''Skytturnar'', there were 14 different pieces of music used in the movie, mostly as coincidental music. The EP has never been reissued and is currently widely unavailable. Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson
Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (; born 23 April 1958), also known as HÖH, is a musician, an art director, and '' allsherjargoði'' (''chief goði'') of Ásatrúarfélagið ("the Ásatrú Association"). Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson was a pioneer in the use of computers when composing music and cleared the path for new ideas in recording and arrangements. He has worked on ambitious, experimental and original projects with various musicians, such as Psychic TV, Current 93, Sigur Rós, Steindór Andersen and Eivør Pálsdóttir. From early bands to the birth of Þeyr From 1972 to 1975 he was playing drums in a school band called Fatima with guitarist Jóhannes Helgason, bassist Birgir Ottóson and singer Guðmundur Eyjólfsson. Friðrik Þór Friðriksson (born 12 May 1954; pronounced ), sometimes credited as Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, is an Icelandic film director and producer. Biography Fridriksson started his film making career with experimental films and documentaries in the early 1980s. In 1987, he founded The Icelandic Film Corporation that became Iceland's most important film production company. The company produces his films and works with other Icelandic directors as well as producers. 260 px, Bubbi Morthens, Laugardalsvöllur, Iceland (2007) Bubbi Morthens (full name ''Ásbjörn Kristinsson Morthens''; born 6 June 1956) is an Icelandic-Danish-Norwegian singer and songwriter. Aside from a lengthy solo career, he has been a member of such Icelandic bands as Utangarðsmenn and Egó. Personal life Bubbi was born in Reykjavík to a Danish mother and a half-Norwegian, half-Icelandic father. Bubbi is a common nickname for Ásbjörn. He developed a strong addiction to cocaine and alcohol in his youth, later in life he became an advocate for sobriety and addiction prevention. In 2018 he published the poetry book ''Rof'' about the sexual abuse he was a victim of as a child. In 1973 (at the age of 17), Bubbi became a migrant worker. This is a list of submissions to the 60th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. Helgi Björnsson (born 10 July 1958), often referred to as Helgi Björns, is an Icelandic actor and pop/rock musician. Iceland has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1981. The first film to be sent to AMPAS by Iceland was ''Land and Sons'' which was released in Iceland in 1980. Since then, Iceland has sent in a film every year. Only one Icelandic film, '' Börn náttúrunnar'' (''Children of Nature''), directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson, has received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. However, a second, '' Djúpið'' (''The Deep''), made the nine-film shortlist in 2012, and a third, '' Síðasti bærinn'' (''The Last Farm'') by Rúnar Rúnarsson, was also nominated for Best Live Action Short in 2006. Friðrik Þór Friðriksson's films have been selected to represent Iceland six times- more than any other Icelandic director. The Sugarcubes
The Sugarcubes ( Icelandic: Sykurmolarnir) were an Icelandic alternative rock band from Reykjavík formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1992. For most of their career, the band consisted of Björk Guðmundsdóttir (vocals, keyboards), Einar Örn Benediktsson (vocals, trumpet), Þór Eldon (guitar), Bragi Ólafsson (bass), Margrét "Magga" Örnólfsdóttir (keyboards) and Sigtryggur Baldursson (drums). The Sugarcubes' debut album, ''Life's Too Good'' (1988), was an unexpected international success, and produced their signature song "Birthday". Gramm (record Label)
Gramm was an Icelandic record label created by Ásmundur Jónsson and Einar Örn Benediktsson in 1981. Located in Reykjavík, Gramm’s first release was a 10-track 7" vinyl titled ''Tilf'' by Purrkur Pillnikk, a punk group led by Einar Örn. Besides releasing all Purrkur Pillnikk's records, Gramm also issued works of artists like the English experimental group Psychic TV, Björk's first band Tappi Tíkarrass and Kukl (featuring Björk and Einar Örn). Rock band Þeyr and punk groups such as Vonbrigði were also associated with Gramm. In 1987, Gramm went bankrupt. Ásmundur and some of the musicians who were playing in Kukl created Smekkleysa, which ultimately became Bad Taste, known worldwide by the Sugarcubes.
