Sky At Night (album)
''Sky at Night'' is the fifth studio album by English people, English rock band I Am Kloot. The album was produced by Guy Garvey and Craig Potter (musician), Craig Potter of the band Elbow (band), Elbow and was released on 5 July 2010. Since 2 July 2010, the whole album has been streamed for free on the guardian.co.uk website. On 20 July 2010, the album made the shortlist for the 2010 Mercury Music Prize. On 15 November 2010, it was announced that ''Sky at Night'' has received the German Record Critics' Award (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik) in the "Pop and Rock" category. The line "we've got all the bullets, but there's no-one left to shoot" comes from "Oblivious" – a song by Aztec Camera. I Am Kloot
I Am Kloot were an English rock band, formed in Manchester in 1999. The band was composed of vocalist/guitarist John Bramwell, bassist Peter Jobson and drummer Andy Hargreaves. The band released six studio albums, and was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2010 for the album '' Sky at Night''. The band split up in 2016, with Bramwell concentrating on a solo career. The origin of the band name was shrouded in secrecy for the majority of the band's existence, with Bramwell stating in 2013 that the band "never said and we never will" confirm the origin of the name and joked that "If I told you, I'd have to kill you". Jobson later claimed that the name I Am Kloot was inspired by the Alan J. Pakula film ''Klute'', and also that "I Am Kloot is a left handed card game made famous in the diaries of Jerome K. PIAS Recordings (formerly Play It Again Sam) is a Belgian record label founded in 1983 by Kenny Gates and Michel Lambot. Play It Again Sam expanded along with other European independent labels in the early 1980s. Play It Again Sam's prominent early artists were electronic-rock acts like Front 242, Meat Beat Manifesto and The Young Gods. Gramophone Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Albums of recorded sound were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78 rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl long-playing (LP) records played at rpm. You, Me And The Alarm Clock
You, Me and the Alarm Clock is a solo mini-LP by John Bramwell (I Am Kloot). The album was released in 1989 on Village Records label. Bramwell was almost 24 years old at that time and performed under pseudonym Johnny Dangerously. The album was recorded and produced by John Bramwell at Sugarloaf Studios in Abergavenny (south-east Wales). The record was pressed solely on 12-inch vinyl, and only a limited number of copies were available. After almost 23 years, on 7 May 2012, a limited re-mastered CD edition was released. This reediton was published by label Townsend Music (catalogue no. TOWNCD62) and debuted on its week of release at position 48 of the UK Indie Chart. The cover for the reissue contained the real name of John Bramwell instead of the pseudonym "Johnny Dangerously". Aztec Camera were a Scottish pop/ new wave band founded by Roddy Frame, the group's singer, songwriter, and only consistent member. Formed in 1980, Aztec Camera released a total of six studio albums: ''High Land, Hard Rain'' (1983), ''Knife'' (1984), ''Love'' (1987), '' Stray'' (1990), '' Dreamland'' (1993), and ''Frestonia'' (1995). John Bramwell
John Harold Arnold Bramwell (born 27 November 1964 in Hyde, Cheshire) is an English singer-songwriter, best known as the frontman for the former three-piece alternative rock band I Am Kloot. Prior to forming I Am Kloot, Bramwell had previously issued solo material under the guise of "Johnny Dangerously". He is left-handed, but plays guitar right-handed. Biography Bramwell was born on 27 November 1964 in Hyde, Cheshire (now part of Tameside, Greater Manchester). He grew up in Gee Cross, Hyde. In the early years, John was the front man of a four-piece band called "The Ignition" that toured in the early to late 1980s. I Am Kloot (album)
''I Am Kloot'' is the self-titled second album by English rock band I Am Kloot. Released in 2003, the album reached #68 on the UK Albums Chart and yielded four singles and one download-only single. The download-only single "Proof" had a music video created for it by Krishna Stott, featuring actor Christopher Eccleston, which never received its intended, full release. A demo of "Proof" originally appeared as a B-side to " Morning Rain" in 2001. The album contains an extra song, hidden in the pregap, called "Deep Blue Sea," also released as a B-side on the "Life in a Day" single. The singles " Life in a Day" and " 3 Feet Tall" charted on the UK Singles Chart at #43 and #46 respectively. The Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik ("German Record Critics' Award") was established in Germany in 1963 by publisher Richard Kaselowsky with the aim of setting the "most rigorous standards for supreme achievement and quality" in the field of music recording. Later on, it became closely linked to the German music industry's Deutsche Phono-Akademie e.V. – however, in 1980, the entire jury cut these ties and became an independent association. The Mercury Prize, formerly called the Mercury Music Prize, is an annual music prize awarded for the best album released in the United Kingdom by a British or Irish act. It was created by Jon Webster and Robert Chandler in association with the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers in 1992 as an alternative to the Brit Awards. The prize was originally sponsored by Mercury Communications, a brand owned by Cable & Wireless, from which the prize gets its name. Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals) and Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals). They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Drummer Alex Reeves replaced Richard Jupp in 2016.
