''Sky's the Limit'' (written as ''Skys The Limit'') is the debut studio album by American rapper Magic. It was released on September 15, 1998, on No Limit Records, Tru Records and Priority Records. The record features production from Beats By the Pound, Mark In Da Dark and DJ Daryl, and guest appearances from almost the entire No Limit and Tru Records artists roster. Commercial performance The album was another success for the thriving No Limit, debuting at number 15 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number 3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, selling 105,551 copies in its first week. Magic (rapper)
Awood Johnson Jr. (August 16, 1975March 1, 2013), better known by his stage name Magic (or Mr. Magic), was an American rapper from New Orleans, best known for his stint with No Limit Records in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Early life Born and raised in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana, Awood Johnson first made his name in New Orleans' underground circuit performing in talent shows and in a local group. Magic first appeared on C-Murder's songs "Picture Me" and "Watch Yo Enemies" on his 1998 album '' Life or Death''. He was signed to C-Murder's label Tru Records, a sublabel to No Limit Records. Steady Mobb'n was an American hip hop duo composed of Crooked Eye and Billy Bathgate, from the Ghost Town section of West Oakland. The duo were formally signed to No Limit Records & Bomb Shelter Entertainment in the late 1990s. Music career In 1995, Steady Mobb'n released a cassette EP titled ''Blood Money''. Two years later the duo joined rapper/entrepreneur Master P's No Limit Records, and collaborated with Master P on the single "If I Could Change", which was produced by No Limit Records in-house producer DJ Daryl and served as the first single from the ''I'm Bout It'' soundtrack. Gambino Family (group)
The Gambino Family was an American hip hop group founded by Master P in 1997, named after the Gambino crime family. The four members of the group were Lil Gotti (after John Gotti), Malachi, Pheno and Reginelli (after Marco Reginelli). Biography The Gambino Family made their debut mainstream appearance in 1997 on the soundtrack to ''I'm Bout It'' on the song "Why They Wanna See Me Dead". The Ghetto Commission was a rap quartet signed to No Limit Records. Biography The Ghetto Commission was formed in 1998 in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. Members consisted of New Orleans rappers Holloway (Dwayne Lawrence), G-Spade (Gary Arnold), Valerio (Walter Valerio) and singer Byron Dolliole. The group made several guest appearances on No Limit releases from 1998 to 2000. They released their first and only album, Wise Guys, in 1998, which featured the non-charting single "I'm a Soulja". Edward Lee Knight (November 2, 1971 – July 24, 2001), best known by his stage name Big Ed the Assassin, often shortened to Big Ed, was an American rapper. Knight was signed to Master P's No Limit Records in 1992, and appeared on numerous No Limit releases during the 1990s, contributing to releases by Master P, C-Murder, Mac, Soulja Slim and more. Knight later released his debut album, The Assassin through No Limit Records in 1998. Knight would go on to leave No Limit in 2000, starting his own label, Special Forces Records. Knight released his second album, Special Forces, through the label on May 9, 2000. Knights third and final album, Edward Lee Knight 1971-2001, was released posthumously in August 2002. Vyshonn King Miller (born June 18, 1975), better known by his stage name Silkk the Shocker, is an American rapper and actor. He originally went under the stage name Silkk, but later adopted Silkk the Shocker after the release of his first album. McKinley Phipps, Jr. (born July 30, 1977), better known simply as Mac, is an American rapper and songwriter from New Orleans' 3rd Ward. Mac began rapping as a child, releasing his debut album ''The Lyrical Midget'' at the age of 13 in 1990, under the stage name ''Lil Mac''. Mac would eventually sign with Master P's No Limit Records and would grow to be one of the most critically acclaimed artists on the label, both as a solo rapper and as a member of the super group 504 Boyz. Mac released 2 solo albums and 1 album as part of the 504 Boyz on No Limit, including 1998's Shell Shocked, which peaked at #11 on the US ''Billboard'' 200. In 2001, Mac was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 30 years in prison at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Louisiana, and was released on parole on June 22, 2021 after serving 20 years of his sentence.
