Skillet Fork is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map accessed May 19, 2011 river in southern Illinois in the United States. It is a tributary of the Little Wabash River; via the Little Wabash, Wabash River, Wabash and Ohio River, Ohio rivers, it is part of the drainage basin, watershed of the Mississippi River. The Skillet Fork rises in northeastern Marion County, Illinois, Marion County and flows generally southeastwardly through Clay County, Illinois, Clay, Wayne County, Illinois, Wayne, Hamilton County, Illinois, Hamilton and White County, Illinois, White counties. In its lower course, parts of the river have been straightened and River engineering#Channelization, channelized. It joins the Little Wabash River upstream of Carmi, Illinois, Carmi. Clay County is a county in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 13,815. White County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 13,877. Its county seat is Carmi. It is located in the southern portion of Illinois known locally as " Little Egypt". History White County was organized from Gallatin County in 1815, and was named after Captain Isaac White, a Gallatin County legislator who is credited with the idea of extending the Illinois-Wisconsin border a few miles north of the southern tip of Lake Michigan and was also in charge of the salt works at Equality. He was killed in 1811 at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The county seat, Carmi, was founded in 1814, and incorporated in 1816. The first courthouse was in the log cabin of John Craw.
