''Skiensposten'' was a Norwegian newspaper, published in Skien. ''Skiensposten'' was started in 1842 by Herman Bagger, a Danish immigrant who had worked as a jurist, teacher, farmer and politician. Before the end of the year, however, he grew tired and resigned as chief editor. Bratsberg Amtstidende
''Bratsberg Amtstidende'' was a Norwegian newspaper, published in Skien in Telemark county. It also held the names ''Ugeblad for Skien og Omegn'' (1830 to 1840), ''Bratsberg Amtstidende og Correspondent'' (1843 to 1844) and ''Skiensposten'' (1863 to 1884). The first ten years ''Ugeblad for Skien, Skiens-Fjord og Omegn'' was started as a weekly newspaper on 1 January 1830, and omitted the "Skiens-Fjord" from its name already in July 1830. It was the project of printing press owner Peter Feilberg, who with "Ugebladet" had started the first newspaper in Skien. "Ugebladet" had no competing newspapers during its existence, the most nearby "rival" being '' Jarlsbergs og Laurvigs Amtstidende'' in Laurvig. Feilberg and "Ugebladet" was notably convicted of libel in 1837 and sentenced to pay 60 speciedaler; the complaint had been filed by County Governor Frederik Wilhelm Wedel Jarlsberg. Herman Bagger
Herman Bagger (20 July 1800 – 24 November 1880) was a Norwegian-Danish newspaper editor and politician. Personal life Herman Bagger was born in Lemvig in Jutland, Denmark to physician Eggert Christian Bagger (1768–1812) and his wife Claudine Margrethe (1774–1838), née Borgen. He had one older brother and three younger siblings. On 9 June 1829 he married Marthe Elise Winther (1802–1870). The couple had five sons and one daughter. Career Bagger was a jurist by education. At the time of his marriage, he worked as a headmaster at a school in Drøbak, Drøbach. In 1837, the year local government was introduced in Norway, Bagger was elected as the first mayor of Gjerpen municipality. He held this position until 1841. Skien
Skien () is a city and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county in Norway. In modern times it is regarded as part of the traditional region of Grenland, although historically it belonged to Grenmar/Skiensfjorden, while Grenland referred the Norsjø area and Bø. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Skien. Skien is also the capital of Vestfold og Telemark county. Skien is one of Norway's oldest cities, with an urban history dating back to the Middle Ages, and received privileges as a market town in 1358. Peter Feilberg
Peter Fredrik Feilberg (7 April 1800 – 5 August 1863) was a Norwegian newspaper editor, bookseller and printer, who also served as mayor of Skien. Biography He was born in Tønsberg in Vestfold, Norway. He was the son of Jacob Feilberg (1753-1816) and Anna Granberg (1761-1854). His family had immigrated from Flensburg, Southern Schleswig in 1787. Peter Feilberg was a dyer by education. He also operated a printing press, ran a book shop and later a rental library. In 1830 Feilberg started '' Skiens Ugeblad'' which was the first newspaper in Skien. He was notably convicted of libel in 1837 and sentenced to pay 60 speciedaler; the complaint having been filed by County Governor Frederik Wilhelm Wedel Jarlsberg (1787-1863). Feilberg's defender Pavels Hielm (1781-1846) was also convicted of inappropriate procedure and was sentenced to pay a fine of 10 speciedaler for having recited a poem during the final speech of the defence.
