Skewen Athletic Football Club were a Welsh football team based in Skewen in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, in Wales. The team played in the Welsh Football League. In 2005 the team merged with Neath to form Neath Athletic. History The club's history could be traced back to the 1920s when they played as ''Garthmoor FC''. The team was founded by local builders H. Snow & Co and named after an elevated area between Neath & Briton Ferry. They initially played in the Swansea Gwalia League before moving to the Neath League where in the 1934–35 season they won the Neath & District League Championship and Open Cup. They reached the and reached the final of the West Wales Amateur Cup in 1938–39 losing to Swansea Nomads. The Welsh Football League Division One, known as the Nathanielcars.co.uk Welsh League First Division for sponsorship reasons, was a football league in South Wales. It formed the top division of the Welsh Football League and the second level of the Welsh football league system until the 2019–20 season when it was replaced by the Cymru South. From the 2019–20 season it operated at the third level of the Welsh football league system. If the team which finished top of the Division had good enough ground facilities, it was promoted to the Welsh Premier League and was replaced by one of the two teams finishing bottom of the Premiership. WWFA Intermediate Cup
The West Wales Intermediate Challenge Cup is the regional knock-out competition for clubs beneath the umbrella of the West Wales Football Association, at the level of Tier 4 and below of the Welsh Football Pyramid in South West Wales. The tournament invites clubs typically from the top divisions of the Carmarthenshire League, Neath & District League, Pembrokeshire League and Swansea Senior League. Since winning in 2015 and 2017 Team Swansea have been promoted to Tier 2 of the Welsh Football Pyramid, now playing in the Cymru South as Swansea University. If the team which finishes top of the division has good enough ground facilities, traditionally it was promoted to the Welsh Football League Division One and is replaced by the team finishing bottom of Division One.
