''Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk'' is a compilation album by the American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, released by Columbia Records on May 26, 1998, a year after his death. It comprises recordings Buckley made with the producer Tom Verlaine in 1996 and 1997, along with alternative mixes and demos. It was released after negotiation with Buckley's mother, the owner of his estate. She feared that Sony, owner of Columbia, was trying to exploit his legacy. It received positive reviews. Recording and release Buckley released his debut album, ''Grace'', in 1994. Jeffrey Scott Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), raised as Scott Moorhead, was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. After a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by performing cover songs at venues in East Village, Manhattan, such as Sin-é, while gradually focusing more on his own material. ''Grace'' is the only studio album by American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, released on August 23, 1994, by Columbia Records. The album had poor sales and received mixed reviews at the time of its release. However, in recent years it has dramatically risen in critical reputation. Mick Grøndahl (often spelled Grondahl) (born 7 May 1968) is a Danish-American bass guitarist. Born in Copenhagen, he was raised in Manhattan, New York with his mother and grandmother, Vava. Inger Lorre (born Lori Ann Wening) is an American singer who is best known for her band Nymphs. Music career Nymphs Nymphs spent the mid-to-late '80s honing their craft in New Jersey, but they soon decided to try to make it big in California. They hadn't been there more than a few months before only Inger and guitarist Geoff Siegel were left. They replaced the other two with guitarist Sam Merrick, drummer Alex Kirst, and bassist Cliff D. "Yard of Blonde Girls" is a song written by sisters Audrey Clark of the Boston band the 360s and Lori Kramer of the Paper Squares, who were performing together in the late nineties as Pendulum Floors. Inger Lorre contributed additional lyrics on the second verse, which were written about singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. "The Sky Is a Landfill" is the first track on the posthumous ''Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk'' album release by Jeff Buckley. It was written by Buckley together with bandmate Michael Tighe, whom he had worked with on " So Real". Heavy, rocky and discordant, the track has a different tone from many of Buckley's songs from his debut album ''Grace''. Two live recordings, from performances at the New York's The Knitting Factory and Arlene's Grocery in 1997, can be found online and feature different lyrics. The song is based on journalist Al Giordano's essay "The Medium Is the Middleman", which Buckley, a friend of Giordano's, adapted: "He applied my critique of the media industry to the music industry, and we had the exact same conclusions," says Giordano. "Kashmir" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. Included on their sixth album '' Physical Graffiti'' (1975), it was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant with contributions from John Bonham over a period of three years with lyrics dating to 1973. The song became a concert staple, performed by the band at almost every concert after its release.
