Whistler Sliding Centre
The Whistler Sliding Centre (french: link=no, Centre des sports de glisse de Whistler) is a Canadian bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track located in Whistler, British Columbia, that is north of Vancouver. The centre is part of the Whistler Blackcomb resort, which comprises two ski mountains separated by Fitzsimmons Creek. Located on the lowermost slope of the northern mountain (Blackcomb Mountain), Whistler Sliding Centre hosted the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton competitions for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Design work started in late 2004 with construction taking place from June 2005 to December 2007. Bobsledders Pierre Lueders and Justin Kripps of Canada took the first run on the track on 19 December 2007. Certification took place in March 2008 with over 200 runs from six different start houses (the place where the sleds start their runs), and was approved both by the International Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Federation (FIBT) and the International Luge Federation (FIL). John Daly (skeleton Racer)
John Daly (born June 10, 1985) is an American skeleton racer who has competed since 2001. He has been on the World Cup podium many times, at such tracks as Winterberg, Calgary, and St. Moritz. Career Prior to competing in skeleton, Daly was a BMX racer but stopped after breaking both wrists during a practice run. He also competed in track and field while in high school and college. Daly began competing in the sport of skeleton in 2001. From 2001 to 2010, he won gold in the Intercontinental Cup and America's Cup where he reset the Lake Placid track record. In the 2008–09 season, Daly won 1st in the St. Moritz Europa Cup as well as the Igls Europa Cup and went on to get 2nd place for the overall Europa Cup title. Sergey Sergeyevich Chudinov (russian: Сергей Сергеевич Чудинов; born June 8, 1983 in Chusovoy) is a Russian skeleton racer who has competed since 2003. Kristan Bromley
Kristan Bromley (born 7 March 1972) is a retired British skeleton racer who has competed since 1996. He won the gold medal in the men's event at the 2008 FIBT World Championships in Altenberg, Germany. This was Great Britain's first gold medal at the FIBT World Championships since 1965. Competing in four Winter Olympics, Bromley's best finish was fifth in the men's skeleton event at Turin in 2006. He has twice won the men's overall Skeleton World Cup title (2003-4, 2007-08). In 2008 he became the first man in history to win the World Championship, European Championship and World Cup in the same season. In September 2015 Bromley announced his retirement from the sport. Eric Bernotas AKA Dr. Gravity (born August 5, 1971) is an American former skeleton racer who has competed since 2002. He won three medals at the FIBT World Championships with two silvers (Men's skeleton: 2007, Mixed team: 2007) and a bronze (Mixed team: 2009). Early life and education Bernotas is from West Chester, Pennsylvania. He was educated at Malvern Preparatory School and West Virginia University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and graduated in 1994. Athletic career Bernotas discovered the sport by accident in 2001, after he got lost and ended up at the Lake Placid sledding track whilst driving through the Adirondacks. Jeffrey Thomas "Jeff" Pain (born December 14, 1970) is an American-born Canadian former skeleton racer who competed from 1995 to 2010. He is regarded as one of the most successful male competitors in the history of the Canadian skeleton program. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska. He graduated from the University of British Columbia, where he was a member of the school's varsity track and field team. Pain has had a 15-year career with 22 World Cup podium finishes in 74 starts, including ten wins, 3 World Championship medals, and an Olympic silver medal. The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), originally known by the French name ''Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing'' (FIBT), is the international sports federation for bobsleigh and skeleton. It acts as an umbrella organization for 14 national bobsleigh and skeleton associations . It was founded on 23 November 1923 by the delegates of Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States at the meeting of their first International Congress in Paris, France.
